Good morning Year 6 and Happy Friday!
This week we have been looking at Word Classes and today we are continuing that as we are learning about ‘Verbs and Adverbs’.
A verb is a word used to describe an action, being or state. ‘run, sing, walk, am, are, is’ are all verbs.
The tense of a verb tells you whether the action is happening in the present, past or future.
*Remember, you can’t always add ‘ed’ to the verb to get the past tense. e.g. I eated a sandwich/I ate a sandwich*
Adverbs give you more detail about the verb. An adverb might tell you how, when or where something happened.
e.g. He played his trumpet loudly (how)
He played his trumpet yesterday (when)
He played his trumpet upstairs (where)
When a group of words acts like an adverb, it is called an adverbial phrase.
e.g. She threw the football in the garden
