Good morning, Year 5!
How are you? I really miss it when you all say ‘good morning’ back to me in the mornings!

The illustration above by Charlie Mackesy really gives me hope. Have you seen the video we have made for you?

Today is the start of our Easter Holidays and I hope that you enjoy some special quality time with your families. Although I won’t be posting daily blogs throughout the holidays, you can still share what you have been doing on here or use this space just to chat to each other. More information about the optional home learning during the Easter holidays can be found here.

I would love to know how you all are and what you have been doing at home so far with your families. I have missed you all so much and I think it would be great to use this blog as a chance to talk to each other in the comments and perhaps even share ideas with each other. Have you found a fun game to play or passed the time in other fun ways? Please share them with your classmates.

Please respond to each other’s comments, ask questions and share how you are. You’ve already shared ‘PE with Joe Wicks’ with each other so if you have found any other amazing activities please let us know. I would encourage you all to ‘Reply’ to each other as well.

I know this is a new kind of ‘normal’ for us at the moment but I think it is very important to stay in touch and share our experiences on here. I miss our classroom discussions and perhaps we could try to replicate that virtually as best we can here!

I look forward to reading your comments.

God bless you all,

Mrs Avdiu

  1. Hello everyone, hope you are all alright. I usually play rummikub with my mum and my dad which is a very fun board game. Also when I am free I talk on house party with my friends, house party is an app where you can play games on your Ipad and chat with your friends. I also I enjoy some of the tasks you give us. On the week days I have exercise with all my swimming friends and my teacher which is fun because I get to see my other friends virtually. Today I am going with my dog for a short walk. How do you pass the time at your house? I hope you all are having a great time bye.

I’m glad to see you’re keeping in touch with your friends 🙂 I also see my friends and family in video calls and I even ‘meet’ the other St Vincent’s teachers in this way! We are so lucky to have the wonderful technology we have today; especially during times like this!

  3. Hi Claudia! I searched up the game that you used to play – it seems really fun! I hope you enjoy the walk with your dog!

  4. Hi Claudia! I’ve also got a game named rummikub! Maybe I could play with my family some time! I suppose I could get the app house party, a few of my best friends have it, out of school! One of my friends in school recommended Skype! Is it good?

  5. Hello everyone! I hope you are all safe and happy.

I have been doing a lot of fun activities such as: watching movies, baking, drawing, playing piano and loads more. I also really miss our Year 5 class, and I wish that we could be there but because of this situation I think that it is best that we all stay at home and have fun. I have been doing school work before and after I play as I want to finish as much school work as possible so that in the afternoon I have a lot of free time.

I have a garden that I use every now and then so that I can be outside for 30 minutes or so. If anyone has a garden I would recommend you to use it as you are extremely lucky to have one.
If you don’t have a garden but you have a balcony you could maybe stand or sit there for a couple of minutes to get some fresh air.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the day! I hope to see you all soon!

    Have a lovely Easter!? ?

Nika, I also feel very fortunate to have a garden during a time like this! Glad to see you are okay and keeping busy 🙂

    Hi everyone!
At home I have been doing fun activities such as playing football with my dad and I have also done quite a bit of homework. Every day I go to Paddington Gardens to exercise and get some fresh air. I miss everyone A LOT!
    See you soon

  8. Mrs Avdiu says:

That sounds great Seb! Going for walks has been very helpful to me too.

  9. Hi everyone!
I miss you so much and hope that we will see each other very soon. At home I do the schoolwork every day and talk to my friends in the evenings. I hope you are all feeling well and I wish you a Happy Easter! 😉

  10. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hi Wanda, we miss you too! Glad to know you are well and keeping in touch with your friends 🙂

  11. Hi everyone I hope you’re all safe and healthy.
At home I’ve been doing the homework you’ve sent us only every weekdays. Everyday I go outside in my garden to play and get some fresh air for a bit. Yesterday we had BBQ since it was very hot (our first barbeque this year). My dad built a ping pong table and we get to play everyday! We also have badminton. I just wish that I could go out to see my friends again.
Hope you have a Happy Easter and a fantastic day!

  12. Mrs Avdiu says:

Wow, the ping pong table sound so much fun! Who’s winning?! I’m also grateful to have my garden 🙂

  13. Ms Robertson says:

    Hi Renee!
Wow, you are so lucky to have a garden – equipped with sports facilities and a BBQ, I’m jealous! Hopefully it wont be long before we can all go out and visit our friends and family again. Well done with keeping on track with your school work and Happy Easter to you too!

  14. Hi guys! I hope you are all well.
In the morning I do my home schooling work (maths and then english). After lunch I ride on my bike, with my dad to Buckingham Place, or another location. At the palace, I watch the guards marching up and down. In the evenings I either bake yummy cakes with my mum, or eat them with my dad, who is supposed to be on diet!

  15. Mrs Avdiu says:

That sounds like a great plan! Do the guards still practise social distancing while they’re marching? How fascinating! Glad to hear you are enjoying time with your family.

  16. Ms Robertson says:

    Thank you Wanda
    Happy Easter to you too!
    And everyone in Yr 5.

  17. Mrs Avdiu says:

Happy Easter Ms Robertson. I miss you!

  18. Hello Everyone! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your days in lockdown. So far, I’ve been doing few bike rides with my brothers and dad. With a small possibility, we may end up getting a dog to occupy time! We’re mostly on laptops to do homework and other things. We have also been eating outside where we can enjoy the sun and talk! But the good thing is how we can keep in touch with friends through many apps! I have mainly been communicating with classmates through mail and a gaming platform named Roblox. Many people play it and they have a chat system where you can chat with friends, it’s also possible to join them in games and play together. So that’s how I stay in touch, I wish a happy Easter to everybody and a fun time with family!

  19. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hello Maya! That’s so cool that you can go bike riding together – it’s a great way to keep fit! I’ve been going for a run every day and it does make a difference. I’m really pleased you are keeping in touch with your friends. Have a wonderful Easter 🙂

  20. Hi Maya, it won’t let me respond to your reply to Claudia.
You asked if Skype is good, and I would like to answer that.
I actually have Skype and it is really cool – but if you already have some apps that you can communicate with your friends then I wouldn’t get it.
By the way I enjoy playing Roblox too.
    Have a nice week everyone!

  21. Hi Everyone
I hope you are all doing fine and I miss all of you a lot

So far each day I will go out side to the park right in front of my house and I will stay out there with my mum or dad for at least 10 minutes or so. I have also been practising my piano since my piano exam was cancelled because of what is happening. I also spend more quality time with my siblings and my parents and also my grandma. Then I read for at least 30 minutes and help my brother with his reading and take care of my sister for my mum if she is busy.

I hope you all have a fantastic Easter Holidays ??

  22. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hi Elena. We miss you too!
I’m also fortunate, like you, to have a park right in front of my house. I’ve been going for walks and for a run through there once a day. I’m sorry your piano exam was cancelled. I think it’s a great idea to keep rehearsing because soon this will all be over and you can ace the exam! 🙂 Have a great Easter

  23. Mrs Avdiu says:

It’s great to see so many of you are keeping in touch with your friends. We are aware that some of you are using Houseparty to connect with each other. Please be aware that this app is recommended for children above the age of 14. I’m sure your parents know you are on this and please remember to lock the room! Never speak to anyone you don’t know or give out personal information. Stay safe 🙂

  24. Ms Robertson says:

    Happy Easter Mrs Avdiu! ??
Have a lovely time with your family – I miss you too!

  25. Mrs Avdiu says:

Thank you Ms Robertson! Happy Easter to you too! 🙂

  26. Hi everyone,
I am sorry that our film premiere was cancelled. I am sure everyone was looking forward to it. However, we can see the films we made on the School’s website! Stay safe and have a good day:) ;)!

  27. Mrs Avdiu says:

Yes, that’s right! We showed the films to the school on the last day and I am sorry you missed that. The teachers and children really enjoyed them. Thankfully they are on the website 🙂

  28. Hi everyone it’s Angieli here,
Hope everyone is doing well.Today at home me and my family done an egg experiment named the floating egg since it’s almost Easter. Now i’m going to tell you how to do it, so that you can also do it at home . First me and my brother got 2 clear/see-through cups (has to be the same type), then get warm water from a kettle and cold tap water, and pour it in the cups.Next get some salt and put 1/4 of the salt and put it in the warm water and mix a little bit afterwards get 2 eggs, and put it in both the cups next after that add a tiny bit more salt to the warm water and you can see that the other cups egg isn’t floating and there you go you have a floating egg. !!!! Hope you have lovely Easter with your family.

  29. Mrs Avdiu says:

Wow, I must try this at home with my son! Thanks for the ‘cracking’ idea 🙂

  30. Ms Robertson says:

    Hi everyone!
I hope you had a lovely Easter weekend – and ate loads of chocolate eggs, because I did! ?

  31. Ms Robertson says:

I’m now going to do some of your work-out routines, to burn off those extra calories!!

  32. Hi everyone hope everyone is ok, I’m a bit bored but I do go for a quick walk everyday and I do play in my garden a lot. I am keeping in touch with my friends on Skype and Zoom. I would recommend downloading Skype and Zoom because they are both really good apps, Skype is really good for texting and Zoom is really good for video calling! Although I don’t really like how confusing the Website is I would prefer to have everything or most things on paper but apart from that I am enjoying lockdown.?

  33. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hi Iggy. I am also fortunate to have a garden like you 🙂
I am glad you are enjoying the lockdown – it’s very admirable that you can see the positives in this situation. I have been keeping in touch with the other teachers at St Vincent’s using Zoom too 🙂 It’s very handy! I have been FaceTiming my family a lot too – I really miss my parents, my siblings and my baby niece but I know I will see them again soon once this is all over 🙂

  34. Hi everyone I’m good I’m quite sad that I’m not going to Sayers Croft but apart from that I’m okay! I just wanted to say I can’t find the reading blog. Bye

  35. Miss Carruthers says:

It is really sad. The government have said no overnight trips. Hopefully you’ll still be able to do fun things at school! You can find a link to the read blog in your English blog. Here is the link https://www.stvincentsprimary.org.uk/blog/home-reading/
