Workbook: 6B

Chapter: 8 Ratio

Lesson: Review 8 and Mind Workout!

Remember… before you go to your MNP book  I would like you to login to MNP and find the worksheets online.

Look through them first and see if you can still understand them as it is so important that you are able to recall prior learning.

Also, the extension task is for everyone! So please challenge yourself and have a go! Remember, the blog is there to ask any questions so please ask away 🙂

Today, we are going to review our learning.

Ratio

  • A ratio shows how much of one thing there is compared to another. Ratios are usually written in the form a:b.
  • If you are making orange squash and you mix one part orange to four parts water, then the ratio of orange to water will be 1:4 (1 to 4).
  • The order in which a ratio is stated is important. Changing the order of the numbers in a ratio changes the proportions.

Look at the questions above. Can any of the ratios be simplified?

  1. Hello Miss! I have done Task 1, emailed the maths no problem pages and now I am doing the extension.

  2. How do you get to the extension? The link seems to be broken.

Hello miss!I was doing the MNP worksheets and I was wondering if you could help me on page 33( question 3)

  7. Miss Gorick says:

Of course-I will look now. Look at yesterday’s blog and scroll down until you see the bar model for question 3 (this will help!)
There are 39 sweets in total and 13 parts in total (look at the bar model to help) so you need to divide 39 by 13 to work out what each part equals.

Then you are able to work out how many star sweets there are.

    Does that help?

  8. Eliza ?? says:

Where is the reveiw, i can not find it.

  9. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Eliza! You will find it on page 39 in workbook 6B.

  12. ?Maryana? says:

    Hi Miss Gorick ?
I am stuck on the mind workout ?️‍♀️

  13. Miss Gorick says:

    Hi Maryana,

Yes, this is quite challenging but let’s have a look!
So…the ratio of the number of lemon pies to cherry pies sold was 3:7
To find the ratio of the total cost of the pies you have to multiply the ratio by the cost so (3X3) and (7×7) which equals 9:49
Because our ratio is 9:49 we have 58 parts in total (9+49).
To work out what 1 part equals we have to do 1160 (total cost) divided by 58 which = 20
Next step, we have to work out the total cost of the pies sold
    so…
    Lemon=20×9=
    Cherry=20×49=

Can you work out the answers to that part and then I’ll help you with the next bit!

  14. I have finished!

  15. Miss Gorick says:

    Super-well done!

  16. ♡ Haleema ♡ says:
