Workbook: 6B

Chapter: 8 Ratio

Lesson: 6 ‘Comparing Numbers 7 ‘Word Problems’

( for worksheet 7, just complete questions 1 and 2)

Remember… before you quickly go to your MNP book and tell me that you’ve done the pages, I would like you to login to MNP and find the worksheets online.

Look through them first and see if you can still understand them as it is so important that you are able to recall prior learning.

As I said yesterday, this week we are revising ‘Ratio’ which we studied in January.

How can you work out who is correct? *Remember…simplest form!*

Now have a go at the guided practice below:

Solving Word Problems

  1. When presented with a problem like this, you must think ‘how many parts are there in total?’.
  2. The boy has 1 part and the girl has 3 parts meaning there are 4 parts altogether.
  3. You then need to find out what ‘1 part’ totals.
  4. To do this, you need to do 2448÷4=612
  5. Now we know that £612=1 part.
  6. How can you use the number for 1 part to work out how much money each child saved?

A ‘Bar Model’ can help you:

Only complete questions 1 and 2 on worksheet 7.
