Let’s Dance!
Good morning Year 6 🙂 If you’re like me, staying inside can make you a little restless! Well, today we’re having an ‘At home PE lesson’!
Have you heard of the Ancient Greek myth, ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’?
Watch the video below to remind yourself of this famous story!
Today our lesson is going to be based on a piece of music called ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’.
Warm up
- Stand with your legs shoulder width apart and take 3 deep breaths.
- Move your head from left to right and then up and down (gently!). Repeat 4 times.
- Roll your shoulders forward 5 times
- Roll your shoulders back 5 times
- Shake your hands
- Shake your feet
- Push your hips out to the left and to the right
Listen to the song- Theseus and the Minotaur.
Decide a suitable starting position that reflects the strength in the song.
Can you move to the beat?
How can you move your body to reflect the sound of the wind?
Decide on 2 or 3 moves or stretches that match the style of the song. Look at the images below for help:
Can you create a sequence that reflects the style of the music?
Let me know how you get on below! You are welcome to work with your siblings or other family members!

It would be great if you could give it a go!
I really enjoyed this lesson! It reminded me of when we had our P.E lesson as we learned one of those dances.
That feels a long time ago! Happy memories ?
I found the contemporary dance good and calming.
That’s lovely to hear ?
Oooooo
Will try
(If I can)
Great!
I really enjoyed today’s lesson and the Theseus and the Minotaur song was very dramatic. I also did PE with Joe this morning so I was already quite warmed up for the contemporary dancing.
That’s great to hear! I tried Joe’s PE lesson last week and it was tiring but I felt good afterwards!
I loved doing the street dance ‘Diversity’ tutorial.
I’m glad you enjoyed that-I thought it looked fun!
I really liked this lesson. It was really fun!☺

I will now decide which dance i will do!(and will try to get amarissa -my sister-involved)
And also,at 3:25 in the music,it kind of sounds like it’s Christmas!
? oh yes you’re right! I hadn’t noticed that when I first listened to it. I hope you have fun with your sister!
Before I started dancing I felt kind of bored but when I finished I felt really happy and enthusiastic.
I liked the street dance tutorial.
That’s great to hear Jade! Doing exercise is a great way to lift your mood…I need to think of what I might do today!
Ariella, well done to you and your sister! Not only are you super dancers but you are also brilliant photographers…what an action shot!
Thankyou!i have one more
Wonderful! I wonder if I could persuade my sister to do a dance with me…?
What super photos!
I enjoyed the Diversity tutorial. Before I started dancing, I felt I wasn’t energised as I was just sitting down. Afterwards, I felt I was filled with energy and felt much happier.
Thank you Miss Gorick for assigning this task, it was my favourite task today.
