This week we have a new big question to discuss for our topic of ‘Planet Earth’. Remember, these questions often require a lot of thinking and discussing, so talk to your family and talk to your friends on the blog. Other people’s answers might make you think about something else.
Try and give reasons in your answer, use ‘because’ and include some facts to explain your point.
This week’s big question is:
Do we really need the rainforest?
We learnt that people were cutting down the rainforests. Do we need to stop them? Try to find out about whether the rainforest is important for our world to give reasons for your answer.
Yes, we need to stop people cutting down the trees because some squirrels and monkeys and birds and other animals are already hurt, you can’t cut anymore trees also animals get hurt by the trees falling. Homes are getting lost so now animals don’t have a lot of places to live in, because almost all the trees are being cut.
Yes, we need the rainforest because all the animals live in the rainforest and if the people keep cutting the rainforest the animals homes will be destroyed.
Also, orang-utans are dying because they normally live in trees, and when their home-tree gets cut down they might die to extinction, which we do not want to happen.
Everyone should stop cutting trees because then animals can’t live in the rainforest or shelter from the trees. Also plants are good for us because they produce oxygen for us and take away carbon dioxide for our world. If you want a better world you should stop cutting trees and recycle paper.
We must stop cutting down the Rainforests, one because animals who live there are losing their homes, and two because there is too much carbon dioxide in the air and trees absorb carbon dioxide. So the more trees, the more oxygen and the less carbon dioxide, and the better planet Earth is. But there’s a big craze for palm oil (oil made from palm trees) so we should all eat less food including palm oil.
I agree with both your points Rex and yes you’re right about the palm oil. I always look at anything I buy to make sure it doesn’t contain any palm oil. If it does then I don’t buy it.
I found an article in National Geographic published last year on the internet. It says that Rainforests pull carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and like a air conditioner they cool the planet. So, yes, they are extremely important. Also, they are the most biodiverse ecosystem on our planet and it would be very sad to lose all these animals (such as sloths) and medicinal plants to forest fires and tree cutting. we must protect Rainforests.
Wow Kristian you really have done some research. I think I might try and find that article too. It sounds very interesting.
Yes. It is important. The rainforest helps the planet with pollution. The trees provide homes for animals. Palm trees are chopped down for palm oil and soon there will be no palm trees left.
Yes Jack I agree with you it’s just not right to destroy the habitat of so many beautiful animals. Humans really need to think about what they are doing.
Wow! I’m so impressed with everyone’s research and ideas. I agree, I think the rainforests are very important. They help give us oxygen to breathe and are the homes for so many plants and animals.
I wonder, why are people chopping down trees? Why do they need to? And what should they do instead?
They are chopping down trees to build roads or use the land for farming. This is called deforestation.
Yes, because animals live there. For example tigers, orangutans, jaguars, howler monkeys, sloths, spider monkeys, red-eyed tree frogs, poison dart frogs and anacondas.
You need the rainforest because it gives us medicine made from
special plants. You need the rainforest because it help us to breath.
You need the rainforest because if there weren’t any trees in it, areas
would be flooded.
We need the rainforest because it makes the air clean. The rainforest is home to lots of animals. Tigers, bears, gorillas, orangutans, jaguars and monkeys need the trees for protection and food.
I read the question earlier and, while I was working at other things, I was thinking of a good answer. It turns out that I didn’t have to think at all. You have covered virtually everything. I often think about the knock on effect the lack of the rainforests will have on climate change. The knowledge you have and research you have done makes me, as Green Team leader, very proud. Keep up the good work.
I’m really glad Year 2 have made you so proud Mrs. Knowler. I too am amazed at all the knowledge the children have. I bet they will make the world a greener place to live in in the future.
We need to stop animals from getting hurt because the trees are getting pulled down in the rain forest and getting replaced with palm trees so orangutans can’t swing on the trees anymore and lots of monkeys and lots of other animals, too!!
Yes Marisa I agree with you that’s why I try and buy things without palm oil. It’s not fair that animals should lose their habitats for us.
