Dance like a frog!

At this time of year, we should be able to spot frogspawn in ponds all around the UK.

Your challenge today is to make up a dance that shows the life cycle of a frog.

TADPOLES

How do tadpoles move?

Can you wiggle your legs?

Can you wiggle your other leg?

Can you wiggle your arms?

Can you wiggle your bottom?

Can you wiggle your head?

Can you wiggle your head and your bottom?

Can you wiggle your whole body?

FROGLET

What happens to the tadpole when it grows?

Can you make your arms really long – like they’ve just grown?

Can you make your legs really long?

Can you stretch up to the sky? To the side?

FROG

Once the tadpole turns into a froglet, what happens next?

Can you jump both feet together?

Can you jump with feet wide apart?

Can you hop on one leg? Then the other leg?

Can you jump really high? Can you hop really low?

What other animals jump/hop – can you show me how?

LIFE CYCLE

Frogspawn – Start really small, in a ball and start to wriggle.

Tadpole – slowly grow a tail (legs together), tail wriggles, arms by side.

Froglet – slowly one leg stretches out, then the next leg, then one arm, then the next arm.

Frog – move around like a frog – low hops.

Now it is time to cool down.

  • Lie on the floor
  • Can you hear your breathing?
  • Squeeze your toes together – then relax them

Then –

Legs

Bottom

Tummy

Hands

Arms

Mouth and eyes… Then slowly get up.

    What other animals can hop?

Amber thought of and acted out a kangaroo, rabbit, frog and a horse as animals that can jump/hop.

The tadpoles wiggle with their tail and when they grow they get 2 arms and when they grow bigger 2 Legs and then next more tail and then they become a frog ?

  6. Hi Miss, I had a lot of fun with this topic! I jumped and hopped a lot. We did a short movie where I play all the life cycle of the frog ? from the egg to the frog.
I learned that tadpole moves like fish and it uses its tail. Starts to grow two hind legs. It can leap around instead of only swimming. Then it grows two front legs and it’s tail becomes shorter.
When it becomes a froglet, it hops right out of the water to learn how being a frog ?.

What other animals jump/hop? Rabbits ?, kangaroos ?, grasshoppers ?. Dolphins ? and whales ? are jumping but in the water.
