Good Morning, Nursery.

As you all know, our new topic is ‘Traditional Tales.’

At school, we always create special topic area in our reading corner for our new topic. Together, we sort through all of the toys and books and find any that we have for our topic.

Today’s task: Can you create a ‘Traditional Tales’ topic area in your home?  Can you sort through all of your toys and books and find any that go with our topic? It could include; fairy tale books, dvds, animals from the stories and dolls to represent the characters.

I am looking forward to hearing all your ‘Traditional Tales’ topic areas.

Love from Miss Siswick.

  1. Dear Miss Siswick,

We will send a photo of our traditional tales corner (the cars are not part of any traditional tale I know but Nicolas insisted that they go into the photo ? we found probably too many princesses etc for his liking – Sophia enjoyed helping us ?).

    Greetings from us!

  2. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Nicolas. I love your traditional tales corner. I am glad that Sophia enjoyed it too!

  3. Sam chose The Gingerbread Man. The old lady baked the gingerbread man in the oven and when he ran away she chased him. As they ran past the cow, the pig, the chicken, the bird they all ran after the gingerbread man as well but he was too fast for them to catch him.

When he got to the river he jumped on the fox’s back to swim over, but as soon as he got to the other side the fox gobbled him up!

  4. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Sam. I like that story too. Is that a dinosaur eating the gingerbread man? I don’t think I know that version!

  5. We moved to a temporary place just before lockdown so don’t have all our things but James and I found a few things to make our Traditional Tale corner. The photo is being sent.

  6. Miss Siswick says:

Well done for trying, James. Your topic corner looks great. I wish we could all share the traditional tales toys, books and costumes that we have at school!

  7. Good Morning Miss Siswick!!
Caspian is so excited to show his friends his Traditional Tales Corner ?.
He was working very hard to prepare it. His sister Chloe ??‍?‍?? was helping him to set it up all the way.

  8. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Caspian. Your book corner looks fabulous. Can you ask Chloe to read ‘The Little Red Hen’ to you today?

  9. Adelaide has loads of fairy tale books in different languages: sleepy beauty, three little pigs, Cinderella, puss in boots, little red riding hood, jack and the beanstalk, goldilocks and the three bears. She also found a castle with a princess and a prince and Elsa and Anna from Frozen (who are both princesses!).

  10. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Adelaide. You found so many traditional tales books. I wonder if the stories are the same in French as in English?

  11. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Hermine and Gabrielle. You have got so many costumes. Have fun acting out the stories.

  12. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Victoire and Colombine. I like the way that you have organised the toys for the different stories.

  13. Good morning!
Esme really enjoyed this task. She loves books, and she loves role play, as well. This was an interesting experience!!!
She did three different groups in her ”library”, which now is open to us to collect some books ?
    First group: monsters and dinosaurs
    Second group: fairytales
Third group: animals (farm, pet and wild animals)

  14. Miss Siswick says:

I love the way that you have created your own library now that the real library is closed, Esme. I wish that I could come and borrow some books from you!

  15. Hello nursery,

I had fun making my traditional tales corner with Saoirse. I found dvds, princesses, fairies, books, jigsaws and my frozen castle. I miss my traditional tales books in London.

  16. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Fiadh and Saoirse. You did a great job creating a traditional tales corner even though lots of your things are at home. I love your costumes!

  17. Grace chose The Three Little Pigs. We found one bath toy pig and two Peppa Pigs to recreate a Tales corner. We created a make shift house out an over turned basket. Grace said “the wolf was trying to eat them (the piggies) but he burns his bottom at the end! Ha Ha Ha Ha”

  18. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Grace. Poor wolf but I’m glad the pigs were ok!

  19. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Fiadh and Saoirse. You did a great job creating a traditional tales corner even though lots of your things are at home. I love your costumes!

  20. Miss Siswick says:

I love your story corner, Eloisa. Are those Russian traditional tales? I would love to hear more about them.

  21. Yes Miss Siswick! My sister read it for me already. I know this story very well. I really like it.

  22. Miss Siswick says:

    I do too, Caspian.

  23. Jade and Leopold created this wonderful fairytale ! A Princess was kidnapped during her sleep by an hairy spider and a mighty crocodile. The shining star missioned 3 adventurers to save her. They needed the help of the wise whale to know where to go. They win the fight asking politely to the creatures who never met anyone who spoke nicely to them before : princess was released and a big celebration was organised.

  24. Miss Siswick says:

What a great story, Jade and Leopold! I love the fact that the fight was won by people being nice to each other. Well done.

  25. Some of them are Western European Fairy Tales but on Russian (the Bremen Musicians, Cinderella). Some of them are variations on the same theme (Ginger Bread Man). But there are lots of Eastern European and Russian traditional tales that involve forest animals or a mix of forest animals and farm animals together. The fox is always the sly one and the wolf is not so much.

  26. Miss Siswick says:

Thank you, Eloisa. I have been to Bremen a few times and there are statues and pictures of the donkey, the dog, the cat and the rooster standing on each others’ backs everywhere!

  27. Mrs Rekkas says:

Well done Nursery, you are doing an amazing job!!!

  28. Ania like it very much Traditional Tales.’She chooses books on princesses but not only was also Peter Rabbit and many Polish books, which Ania likes very much

  29. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Ania. Maybe you could read some of the Polish books to us when we are back at school.

  30. Mrs Knowler says:

James and Adelaide, where you have put your objects looks like really cozy corners to snuggle in to. Fiadh, Saoirse Caspian and Esmeralda it looks like you’ve set shops. I’d definitely buy some of your books. Victoire is that your cousin? Is she as nice as you, I guess she is.
Sam the Moo book looks good, I’d read that in my best farer accent. Which is how my family speak anyway!
Hermine I’m so glad you worked with Gabrielle, it is so nice to see you both.
Nicolas you can never have too many princesses! Hey Sophia?
Well done on using Peppa Pig for your scene Grace, very inventive. I hope Eddie is working as hard as you are.

  31. Miss Siswick says:

Fantastic Traditional tales corners, Nursery. You have gone to so much trouble with your costumes, toys and books. I hope you enjoy playing and reading in them as much as I have enjoyed seeing them and hearing about them

  32. Mrs Knowler says:

Eloisa and Ania your books look so interesting. I’d love to hear you telling me the tales on Russian and Polish.
Philip that’s a great display, are you eating the Gingerbread Man?
