Last week, we read the story ‘The Ascension’ based on Acts 1:6-11, and thought about ways in which we could continue Jesus’ mission throughout our lives.
Today we are going to focus on:
The promise of the Holy Spirit based on Acts 2:1-18, 43 – The Coming of the Holy Spirit.
Mary and the apostles were in Jerusalem living quietly together. They were uncertain as to what to do but wait. There were lots of people in the city at that time because it was the Jewish feast of Pentecost, that is thanksgiving for the harvest.
When the day of Pentecost came, all the believers were gathered together in one place. Suddenly there was a noise from the sky which sounded like a strong and powerful wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire which spread out and touched each person there. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
There were Jews living in Jerusalem, religious people who had come from every country in the world. When they heard this noise, a large crowd gathered. They were all excited, because all of them heard the believers talking in their own languages. In amazement and wonder they exclaimed, “These people who are talking like this are Galileans! How is it, then, that all of us hear them speaking in our own native languages?
Acts 2: 1-18
What do you think this scripture tells us?
The Good News of God’s love and power spread like sparks from a fire and warmed the people’s hearts towards God and one another. The people who were watching were astonished when they saw how much they loved one another. The Holy Spirit inspired a new way of living.

I would say that I felt great joy and happiness when God sent the Holy Spirit and that everyone who believed in God and the Holy Spirit in some way had God in him and at the same time felt him. I would say that the power of the Holy Spirit and God changed me because we all knew (after God sent the Holy Spirit) that he was in us and would always be there when we would need him, giving us the courage to follow God’s and Jesus’ way.
Great ideas Samuel. The Holy Spirit is a special gift we can call upon.

The holy spirit and Jesus
———————————–
If I was one of the followers of Jesus I would say the holy spirit has changed my life because the holy spirit is part of Jesus who is part of God. I will always have them by my side whenever I need help when I’m happy or even sad they will be with me forever the power of the holy spirit will give me strength, hope intelligence and guidance. For the holy spirit has given us joy we shall continue our believe for our happiness shall stay for the mockers can say we are drunk but we are not. We believe and that’s all that matters they believe in idols they make fun of us but they don’t know the happiness of the holy spirit they don’t want the happiness that God has given to them so they can make fun of us all they want but its our believe and that’s what matters.
Brilliant effort Chloe K, I can see you have really thought through these questions. We are so lucky that God always walks beside us wherever we are, and fills us with the Holy Spirit.
I think this scripture tells us that God is always with us and that He can give us the power to love each other and to have faith.
