Good Mornings, Reception.
Earlier in the week and last week, we were practicing adding by counting on.
Today, we are going to practice ‘doubling’ by counting on. ‘Doubling’ means adding two of the same amount like this:
To double by counting on, you would say the number you want to double, get the same number of fingers ready and then count on like this: 3…4,5,6.
Look at this recipe. How many spoons of each ingredient do you need?
What if you wanted to make double the amount of biscuits, how many spoons of each ingredient would you need then?
You can record your Maths in any way that you choose.
If you would like to use the recipe to bake the biscuits, the instructions are here. You don’t have to make double the biscuits but you can if you are hungry!
I am looking forward to hearing all about it.
Love from Miss Siswick.

I baked biscuits during the holidays for Easter and loved making shapes ! I used all these ingredients.
Great doubling; Mikey, Chiara, Madeleine and Sybille.
Well done all of you.
Hello,
We loved the homework, we used blocks to double up and practice.
The recipe needs
8 spoons of flour
5 spoons of sugar
4 spoons of butter
If we want to do double we have to add the same amount again.
8 + 8 = 16 spoons of flour
5 + 5 = 10 spoons of sugar
4 + 4 = 8 spoons of butter
We will try baking some biscuits this weekend, thank you for the recipe!
Well done, Philippa. I hope the biscuits are delicious.
Try doubling by counting on as well. The instructions are at the top of the blog.
