Religious Education: Big Question
Click here for a printable version of this task
This task will include a Big Question to reflect on about our topic ‘Pentecost’.
Last week in Religious Education, we learnt about the promise of the Holy Spirit and the coming of the Holy Spirit. We shared ideas about what we would tell others if we had experienced the Holy Spirit during Pentecost.
The Church celebrates Pentecost
The Church itself is part of the Pentecost story. Each year, Christians remember and celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, the new energy, the new power that he gives to the friends of Jesus.
Big Question
What gifts do you think the Holy Spirit brings to us?
Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would guide and help his disciples to understand all that he had taught them.
Think carefully about what types of gifts the Spirit can bring to us when we call upon it.
Example: Wisdom, the Holy Spirit can bring us wisdom when we need it, to guide us in our decisions and our thoughts.
Have a discussion with your family members about the Big Question and then write down your response on the blog.
I look forward to hearing your ideas.
I think the Holy Spirit brings us gifts such as love, speech and nature.
Thoughtful response Clemence.
Pentecost is the annual Christian festival commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after his ascension from earth to heaven on Ascension Day. It always falls on the seventh Sunday after Easter. Pentecost means “fiftieth day”, as it is celebrated on Pentecost Sunday, the 50th day of the Easter season (including Easter Sunday, the first day, in the counting). Some Christian denominations consider it to be the birthday of the Christian church and celebrate it as such. It can fall as early as May 10th and as late as June 13th
