Good morning, Year 5,
I hope you are all well. It was lovely to speak to most of you on the phone this week – thank you for putting a smile on my face!
Please take a look at the prayers I have shared with our school family here: Prayers for Home
and continue to look at the ‘News’ section of the school website because new prayers will be posted every Monday. I hope you and your families will enjoy praying together.
Last week we looked at Saul’s transformation.
Following his conversion on the road to Damascus Saul became known as Paul. Paul was a key figure in the beginning of the Church. Paul’s letter to the Romans was written to prepare the way for a visit he planned to make to the Christians living in Rome. In his letter to the Romans Paul looks forward to going to Rome and meeting the Christians there. Paul discusses how Christians should live and how God’s Spirit will help and strengthen them.
I would like to share with you the letter from Paul:
Those who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s children. For the Spirit that God has given you does not make you slaves and cause you to be afraid; instead, the Spirit makes you God’s children, and by the Spirit’s power we cry out to God, Father! My Father!
God’s Spirit joins himself to our spirits to declare that we are God’s children. Since we are his children, we will possess the blessings he keeps for his people, and we will also possess with Christ what God has kept for him; for if we share Christ’s suffering, we will also share his glory.
Romans 8: 14-17
Imagine you belonged to the Christian family in Rome. How would you have felt reading this part of Paul’s letter? How would it affected your life?
Here is a reading based on the letter of Paul to the Galatians:
What I say is this: let the Spirit direct your lives, your selfish self is the opposite of what the Holy Spirit wants. The Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control.
Based on Galatians 5: 16-17, 22-23
The first friends of Jesus used their new energy given through the Holy Spirit to spread the Good News of God’s love for everyone. The effects of the coming of the Holy Spirit and the change and transformation the Spirit makes are called the ‘Fruits of the Spirit’, because it is what grows in your heart through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The fruits of the Holy Spirit are:
1. love
2. joy
3. peace
4. patience
5. kindness
6. goodness
7. faithfulness
8. humility/gentleness
9. self-control
Today’s task:
Tell me how each of the fruits of the Holy Spirit can be shown and how they are lived out in everyday life. Can you give examples of when you have shown these fruits? Tell us how they have transformed your life, linking to the readings and scripture above.
CHALLENGE: Some people think that Paul (not Jesus) was the founder of Christianity. What do you think?
If you like you could create a piece of art reflecting the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
They could be in the form of fruit like this:
or more abstract and even maybe with additional ‘fruits’ of the Holy Spirit you can think of, like this:
If you do manage to complete the art task, please send in photos via the Homework Uploader!
I look forward to reading your responses and seeing your art work!

Hello Mrs Avdiu hello everyone hope you are all well and safe this is my answer for todays blog:
I think a way that people can show love is by maybe by helping a family member if they need help and spend time with them because they will be very grateful. To show joy you could play with someone new and maybe even make a friend. I think the way to show peace is to forgive someone even if they have done something bad because then it will be easier to be kind. Being patience is quite hard sometimes especially if you are going to do something fun but to be patience you have to imagine you are the person your waiting for.
Challenge:
I think Jesus founded Christianity because God sent him down to try and make a difference. I think that was Christianity where we are all safe and we can all trust God. For we have been baptized so we are all part of his family also we all have the Holy Spirit.
Hello Claudia, I hope you are keeping well.
Thank you for your lovely ideas. I agree that being patient can be hard but it is so important to try and it’s always so important to be kind. This helps to bring joy to the world!
Love can be used when we’re sad ad someone else cheers us up this means that they care about and and that they care for you ❤️
Peace can be used when we’re are in church and we all say ‘Peace be with you’
Joy can be used by making someone who doesn’t feel very joyful be joyful again you cam do this by being kind to them playing with them and lots more !!!!
Patience is an extremely hard one because not every one is patient but you can be patient by waiting for your turn to get something.
Kindness can be used when you have not been very kind to someone or maybe that person is sad so you can use kindness to cheer them up.
You can be good by helping other people in doing things like helping your mum doing the washing up and lots more.
If something does not turn out your way you need to be faithful and believe that it will be okay soon .
Gentleness can be shown when someone is worried or upset and instead of shouting at them and being rude you can ask them what is wrong and help them be joyful again
A way of using self control is making sure when you’re mad don’t scream or shout just keep calm and let that anger just go away, you can also stay calm whenever someone is treating you wrong and instead of shouting at them as I said before you can go to a grown-up and tell them what is going on .
And example of when I have used one of these fruits , is when my mum was doing the washing up by herself and tidying the house so I decided to be gentle and kind and asked her if I I would help her she responded to yes so after a few minutes I started helping her and she was very very glad that made her day better and more brighter than ever.

Hi Yr 5!
I can’t wait to read all of your responses to today’s RE task. I’m also looking forward to seeing some lovely artwork real soon.
Have a fantastic day! ????????
Hello Miss
I have uploaded my RE artwork for today and I also decided to write a poem.
Hi everyone.
Love can be shown in everyday life by helping out, to show that you love them. Joy can be shown in everyday life if you make somebody happy you usually get happy yourself or if you make somebody happy you make somebody else happy. You can be peaceful everyday by not causing wrtuments. You can be patient everyday by if somebody asks you to be patient you can do as the person says and don’ t complain. Kindness can be used in everyday life by being friendly, and generous and helping others that need it. Goodness can be used in everyday life by being considerate and by being alrustic. You can be faithful everyday by praying everyday and thanking God. You canbe gentle everyday by not getting angey. You can use self-control in everyday life by being good and to resist our temptations. I’ve done this before when I’m tempted instead of playing games on my Daddy’s phone I do homework ,like I’m supposed to do.
CHALLENGE:
I think Jesus discovered Christianity because he was the one who rose from the dead when he died and told people to follow him also he was the Chosen One.
Hello everyone, I hope that you are all enjoying your day so far. Here is how you can show the Fruits of the Spirit: (Sorry if it’s long)
You can show the fruit of love by being polite to the people around you and you can try and be helpful to your parents. I like to help my mum at home to clean out our guinea pigs and make dinner so she won’t be tired so then we can play games after.
You can show the fruit of joy by making a positive difference to someone’s day, like when we (as in me, my brother and my mum) called my Grandad over the phone as he was all alone in Devon. After he had a big smile on his face and I knew that he din’t feel lonely anymore.
You can show the fruit of peace by being gentle around each other and showing consideration for the people around you, for example, when me and my brother where having a argument, I knew that we should not be fighting so we made up and settled it.
We can show the fruit of patience by waiting calmly without being fussy or moaning. Such as when we were going to Shellingford and it was taking a very long time and I was moaning but then I stopped because I knew that it wasn’t anyone’s fault that the journey was taking so long.
We can also show the fruit of kindness by putting a smile on someone’s face and making them happy. For example I saw a homeless man sitting alone on the street and everyone was ignoring him but as I passed him I gave him a smile I he smiled back and I fell like that really made his day.
You can show the fruit of goodness by being a light in someone’s life like in the bible it says “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32).
You can show the fruit of faithfulness by praying to the Lord every night and listen to thw word of the Lord at church. I go to church every Sunday and I listen to the word of the Lord.
You can also show the fruit of humility and gentleness by being caring to your friends and family and by giving other people opportunity’s to do things. Just like our school motto “Together through Christ we grow and learn.” We need to grow together but always remember each other.
Last but no least, we can show the fruit of self-control by controlling our emotions and not taking our anger or sadness out on other people, for example when I found out that my cat, called Todd, had died, I was devestated but instead of taking it out on my mum, I went outside and just stamped around and took it out on the grass.
I hope that everyone enjoys the rest of their day!
Wow Elsa, what a fantastic piece of writing. You have really thought carefully about each of the fruits of the spirit and thought of really good examples. It isn’t always easy, but with the Holy Spirit guiding us, we can use the fruits of the spirit more and more. Excellent work 🙂
Thank you for your lovely drawing and poem Regan
Love can be used when you want to share your feelings or cheer someone up if they are sad.. We should always show love towards everyone and especially God and Jesus.
Peace can be used when you are alone, or in church when praying and saying, “Peace be with you” to people in church when shaking hands.
Joy can be used just like love but more happy and funny! You can use it by cheering people up and making people laugh! I like to make people happy and joyful when they are sad because it makes me feel proud that I helped someone feel better! 😀
Patience is the hardest for me as I’m not that patient especially when I really need the toilet!! 😀 I heard that if you clear your mind and breathe in and out, you feel more patient and calm! 🙂
Kindness can be used to say nice compliments about people and make new friends. It can also be used in if people are in arguments and you can politely tell them to stop arguing and say sorry to each other! 🙂 If someone is sad you can also cheer them up by maybe having a chat with them or saying a funny joke! 🙂
You can be good by helping your family and parents do the chores and do your homework! You should be well behaved and you might get a reward!! 😀 You could be good in school by finishing your work and try go up the rainbow and on to the sun!!
You should use faithfulness by showing consideration to everyone, even strangers!! You should show faithfulness by helping people if the are stuck with something or needs explaining to. You should obey rules or you will get a punishment and I would rather have a reward!! 😀
You should ALWAYS be gentle and calm because it will actually help you in life, especially if something terrible happens. Being calm and gentle is way better than being aggressive and violent!! I am mostly gentle and calm now and I get calmer by meditating and clearing my mind! 🙂
I am quite good at using self control because like I said in the last paragraph I am easily quite calm and gentle 🙂 Sometimes when I get angry though, I try and close my eyes and try really hard to forget what I got angry at, for example,: my cat put her muddy pawprints all over my bed 🙁 (that actually happened once). But I breathe in and out and it actually works!!
I hope you enjoyed reading this piece of work and I will get started on the art now!! Bye!!
Have an AMAZING day!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 🙂 🙂 😀
~Kayla
Wonderful work Kayla. I love that you have been really honest and given some good examples of when you have needed help to show more patience and self control. Well done!
I just finished my art work miss! 😀 😀 😀
Well done! I can’t wait to see it!
Thank you for your lovely art work Claudia. It’s clever how you have used the fruit as part of the people. Well done!
