Good morning Class 4!

Tuesday means a grammar task in English…

Today we are looking at apostrophes!

Lots of people get confused with apostrophes – when to use them or even forgetting to use them at all!

The Possessive Apostrophe

The possessive apostrophe tells us when something belongs to someone. It is their possession.
Watch this clip: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvwwxnb/articles/zx9ydxs

Task 1:
Write 5 sentences about the characters from The Tempest, using the possessive apostrophe.
For example:
Propsero’s magic generated a turbulent storm.
The men wept for the apparent loss of Alonso’s son.

Apostrophes in Contractions

Here you use apostrophes to show you have missed out some letters. For example do not becomes don’t.
Watch this clip: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvwwxnb/articles/zcyv4qt

Task 2:
How many words can you think of that use the apostrophe in this way?
List them on the blog.

Extension:
Can you write some sentences linked to The Tempest using the apostrophe in contraction? You must make sure your sentences still make sense!

I look forward to reading your sentences!

From Miss Lee 🙂
