Good morning Class 4!
Today we are starting our new Religious Education topic:
Reconciliation – Building Bridges
First, let us start with a prayer…
Prayer and Reflection
I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
I set your ordinances before me.
I cling to your decrees,
O Lord; let me not be put to shame.
I run the way of your commandments,
for you enlarge my understanding.
Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes,
and I will observe it to the end.
Give me understanding that I may keep your law
and observe it with my whole heart.
Amen.
(Psalm 119: 30-34)
Reconciliation is when you are forgiven for something after you have apologised and tried your best to solve the issue. It is also the peace between humanity and God.
Christians believe that, in Jesus Christ, the world has been reconciled to God. Through and in Christ, every human being is offered the power to reach out in forgiveness and peace, to receive and to offer reconciliation.
Today you are going to answer the following BIG QUESTION to get us thinking about our new topic:
Why are bridges so important?
Think carefully about this question and about how you can link your answer to religion.
You might want to think about including some of the keywords below:
bridges, friendship, sin, penance, confession
Write your thoughts on the blog so that we can have a class discussion.
I look forward to reading your answers!

Bridges are important because they help you get over things like a river. So if you could link it to religion then it would mean that you can step over your sins and begin a new path.
A lovely idea! How might we ‘step over our sins’?
I have sinned in the past and made wrong choices. Crossing the bridge to me is asking for forgiveness from my confessions. Learning from my bad mistakes or choices makes me happy and helps me grow my friendships.
Well done Ajay! You are right, it is always important to learn from our mistakes so that we do not repeat them!
Bridges are important because they help to cross rivers
How might this link to religion?
Bridges are important because it could be a bridge to cross over a river or go over to your dreams. And that’s important because also bridges can be links to religion or maybe even a family member.I have sinned a lot of times in my life being told off ,but that’s a good thing because when you learn from that mistake you can progress into your life
Lovely ideas Albert! You have shown some important reflective skills here too! We all make mistakes in life but you are right, we learn from these mistakes in order to become a better version of ourselves!
Bridges are so important because they help you to get over your sins and say to yourself that you are forgiven. They are linked to religion because reconciliation means ‘being forgiven’ and that means BUILDING UP for something. The bridge can make you remember that it can give you new life, just like at a confession when the priest forgives you and makes you start life again. During the Penance, you are saying ‘sorry’ to God and reconciliating all the things you have done wrong.
Excellent sentences Elisa! You have explained your ideas well! Who forgives you when you sin?
Bridges are important because they bring you across dangerous things safely. They are important in religion because they help you get over your ‘river’ of sins and be reconciled.
Great ideas Vincent, well done, some good imagery!
Bridges help us get over rivers. We can use “bridges” to connect our friendships with our friends and family, so that we don’t leave broken paths between us. If the bridge falls, our friendships fall too.
Great imagery here Pablo, a very thoughtful answer! I agree although sometimes the bridges between friends can get broken but we must always try to fix these as our friends are important!
I think bridges is our direct connection to our God and our loved ones. It is important to build bridges because without them there would be no friendships, no reconciliation and no communication. I have committed sins and asked for forgiveness by penance and confession on my wrong doing. In the same way, I apologise to a person that I have hurt and learn from my mistake to become a better version of me.
Lovely reflections Clare, well done! You are right, building bridges helps us to build on our friendships and relationships with others such as our family. It is always important to recognise when we have done something to upset another and to apologise!
Bridges help you get over things like rivers. If you link that to religion then that might help you get over bad things. Like holly said your things. Answering your question from Holly’s blog, you can get over sins by reflecting on them and asking a God to forgive you. If you have been mean to someone, better say sorry. If that is not the occasion, well you must do things to fix it. I have also been thinking, they join two things together like land. In one family you are together too.
bridges help us get over the rivers that we drown ourselves into…but today we stand tall, and face our greatest fear.although we may be little and scared, but there is one place that none of those things are there.love.passion.honesty.even though we are stuck in this situation, it’s easy.you can just cry a river, build a bridge and get over it.you are never too afraid to do what’s right.
Great ideas Amarissa, yes even though sometimes it is hard we must always build bridges to help us to keep moving forward and maintain our friendships and relationships with others such as our family!
Physical bridges connect two places that are separated by water, space or any other barrier. They allow people to cross over to the other side to meet other people.
Metaphorically, bridges are connections that form relationships between people. I have connections to family, friends, teachers, God and Jesus. Without bridges, it would be more difficult to communicate and live a good life. For example, without bridges or connections, if you were sad, you would not be able to tell anyone your worries.
Bridges are very important because they join two pieces of land to cross a river or stream. It also helps ditching our sins and beginning a fresh start.
Bridges are important because it would get you across a river. In this situation it is probably to start a new path a say sorry for your sins.
Good ideas Aisha, yes it is important to say sorry when we need to!
So if your fighting you can build a bridge to bring together your differences and then you will meet in the middle and make friends again.
Well done William, good ideas about meeting in the middle as a friendship is built when both people help to build and repair the bridge!
Bridges are important because when you cross the bridge it’s like confessing to the sins you have made in the past and trying to reconcile with God and the other people. I have made sins in the past by maybe being a little not caring to my friends: I reflected on this and and created the bridge of friendship again.
A very detailed reflection Paolo, some important ideas here, well done!
I think that bridges are important because it helps you get over things that you can’t get over and when you step over the the bridge you step over into a new life a path.
Lovely ideas Ciana!
Bridges exist so that we can go over rivers but there is an other meaning. A bridge is when you try to find a way of winning against your fear or mistakes. You can also go on a bridge of friendship which means start to be friends with someone. You can also forgive your friends even if they did something wrong.
Well done Martin, lots of ideas here! How might forgiveness help to build a bridge?
Bridges are used to go over rivers but are also used to get over things we did that are wrong.
Good ideas! How might we get over something we have done wrong?
Bridges are really important because they can help people to get over things like water instead of just falling in it especially for old people because it will really help them.
Building bridges is important because when we sin we seek forgiveness from God and the person we hurt. When they forgive us they are building a friendship bridge to us to say that they’ve forgiven us.
Hello Miss Lee,
Bridges are very important because they help us get across rivers not drown in a river?of sadness and fear. Bridges help us gain friendship and it gives way to a new path in life. I also think that bridges help people because if they don’t have a friend who cares for them they can make a new friend like building a new bridge.
Bridges are important because it connects our friendships so if the bridge falls, our friendship falls.
