Good Morning, Nursery.

Well done for all of your hard work in Maths yesterday.

Today, we are going to practice finding one more and one less.

You need your number cards from 0-10. Mix them up and put them face down so that you can’t see them.

You could print out the actions pictures and mix them up to choose or just choose the order of actions to do.

You could take turns with a grown up to play the game.

Choose an action to do first. Pick up a number card. Turn it over and read the number. Then, you have to do one more action than the number that you chose. For example, you choose number 4 and do 4 hops. Then do one more  hop and say the next number.  See if you can try this with all of the different actions, choosing a new number each time.

Then, try again but with one less action each time. Can you say the number that comes before the number that you chose?

Have fun! I am looking forward to hearing how you got on.

Love from Miss Siswick.

PRINTABLE VERSION:N Maths Tuesday

It would really help me if you could upload photos  straight to the media file (instructions are here: sharing photos and files) as they get to me more quickly and easily as they don’t have to go via the office and my e-mail. Please can either your child’s name or face (but not both) be visible on any photos. Many thanks.

  1. Grace wasn’t sure about ‘1 less’ she seemed to understand ‘1 more’ quite well but I had to explain about having one less. In the end I turned the number cards over and got the good old milk bottle lids out again. I showed her 1 more, 1 less. She hopped, jumped and clapped very happily! :))

  2. James had lots of fun doing his Stamping and hopping exercise while learning “one more or one less”

  3. Hello Miss Siswick,

Caspian had a lot of fun today. He insisted on one action only which is jumping ☺️.c

Every time I asked him one more or one less of given number he replied correctly.

  4. Amber loved doing thsi Maths exercise. She started with picking the number 1 card (easy for her and I both). Eventually, the 20 cards came with the jumps!
Subtraction and addition were fine 95% of the time.

Well done, everyone. I am sorry for the late reply but I am at school today. Love from Miss Siswick.

  6. Ania choose all the actions and had a great time.
Ania used her fingers during the task to help her stop at the right time.

  7. Alexander says:

    Hello,

Alexander was comfortable with one more than and less than with smaller numbers like 2, 3 and 4.

But higher numbers like 6, 7 and 8 He found a little tricky initially.

He was very happy practising this concept whilst being allowed to jump on the bed ?

  8. Miss Siswick says:

I am glad that you enjoyed the Maths activity today. Well done, everyone.

  9. We played this after lunchtime today. Nicolas and Sophia enjoyed playing this. Nicolas recognised numbers without difficulties. One more was no problem. One less a bit more difficult, but he understood it.
