Good Morning, Nursery.

Well done for all of your hard work in Maths yesterday.

Today, we are going to practice our counting.

You need water and ten objects or toys that you are allowed to get wet!

Put your objects in the water and have fun finding out which ones float and which ones sink.

Then, sort the objects into two groups; the ones that sank and the ones that floated. How many are in each group? Does one group have more?  Write down the numbers or use your number cards.

You can try this as many times as you like with different objects and different amounts of objects.

Have fun! I am looking forward to hearing how you got on.

Love from Miss Siswick.

PRINTABLE VERSION:N Maths Wednesday

It would really help me if you could upload photos  straight to the media file (instructions are here: sharing photos and files) as they get to me more quickly and easily as they don’t have to go via the office and my e-mail. Please can either your child’s name or face (but not both) be visible on any photos. Many thanks.

  1. Good morning Miss Siswick,

Another fun day for Caspian , he chose 10 objects and separated into two groups – 6 floated and 4 sank .

Caspian calculated and counted and said 6+4=10.

  2. Miss Siswick says:

    Well done, Caspian.

  3. Esmeralda says:

Esmerad had a lot of fun putting toys and objects in water. She used for this a doll’s bath.

    She found that:

    8 objects floated
    2 objects sank

She said that “the floating ones” won.

After she picked up the correct card numbers to say the amount of each group.

  4. Miss Siswick says:

    Well done, Esme.

  5. Alexander says:

    Well done, Alexander.

  12. Ania chose 10 objects and separated into two groups and both had 5. Ania played many times. Great fun. Thank you, Miss Siswick

  13. Miss Siswick says:

    Well done, Ania.

  14. Lots of fun! Grace took lots of toys, too many. She settled on 14. The Lego brick, Lego watering can, Lego rabbit and Skye (Paw Patrol) all sank but everything else floated. Grace understood that the floating toy group had many more in it – 10. and the other group only had 4 so there was quite a difference. She wrote 10 and 4 and loved every minute. Everything is drying off now 🙂

  15. Miss Siswick says:

    Well done, Grace.

  16. Nicolas and Sophia had a lot of fun with this homework this afternoon. They chose several hatchimals, a spoon, a boat, a shark, a sea lion, bath cars and a duck. The hatchimals, the shark, the sea lion and the spoon sank whereas the rest floated. Greetings from us! ?

  17. Miss Siswick says:

I know that you love playing with water, Nicolas. I am glad that you and Sophia enjoyed it.
