Chapter 13: Fractions

Today we are going to work on naming different fractions. There are two important things to look for: how many parts in the whole shape, and how many parts are shaded.
The number on top is the number of parts shaded (numerator). The number on the bottom is the total number of parts (denominator). For the shape above, you could say 1 part out of 3 is shaded, to help remind you that it is 1 out of 3, or 1/3.
For worksheet 6, you are seeing which parts (or fractions) of the shape need to be added together to make a whole shape (the total shape).
