Chapter: 9 Algebra
Lessons: 5 and 6
Printer-friendly version: Wednesday maths blog
Good morning Year 6,
Today we will continue revising: writing algebraic expressions.
Have a look at this problem:
We cannot determine the rule from only one pair of numbers. When you think you’ve determined the rule you must always check it, then use it to find the missing numbers in the table. Can we express the rule using a symbol? What if the number that goes in is x? You might say 3 is half of 6 so it looks like the machine halves the number. This idea can be challenged using the data from the table!
Let’s have a look at how we can work it out…
Rules can include multiplication and writing algebraic expressions. Sometimes we can use y as the number put in and express the output using y in an algebraic expression:
To consolidate your learning, have a look at this: Forming Expressions
Once you have completed the worksheets, try the extension: Function Machines – Forming Expressions
Good luck!
Mrs Avdiu xx
As today is not my working day, Miss Carruthers will kindly respond to the blogs. Thank you Miss!
Done!
Well done Aryan! Did you try the extension?
Hello Mrs Avdiu,I have done the worksheet and completed the extension, later on I will also do five bars of mathletics
Brilliant Elly! How did you find the extension?
yes
I found the extension challenging but nothing I couldn’t do.
It’s nice to be challenged sometimes. I’m glad you could do it – what a positive attitude to have 🙂
I’ve finished the worksheets and the extension.
Well done Alfie 🙂 How was it?
Done.
Thank you for the maths today
Well done Ethan. Did you try the extension?
Yes, I found it very interesting.
🙂 I’m glad!
Done!
Well done! How did you find it? How much did you do?
I found it relatively easy and have done everything.
Well done 🙂
I have done everything, the MNP pages and the extension.
Well done Tim! How did you find the work today?
Hi Year 6! It’s so great to see so many of you have been working hard 🙂 well done, I miss you all!
