Good Morning, Nursery.
I hope that you had a lovely weekend. Well done for all of your hard work in Maths last week.
Our book of the week is ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. All of our Maths this week will be linked to the book.
Read ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ book if you have it or listen to the author reading it here:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nD_uIFHpscw
Now try these activities:
We learned about Wassily Kandinsky’s art work at school. Some of you created circle pictures for the Art blog before Easter. Can you create a shape picture of your own using a different shape?
I am looking forward to hearing about and seeing your Maths work today.
Love from Miss Siswick. (I will be teaching at school so I will not be able to respond until later today.)
It would really help me if you could upload photos straight to the media file (instructions are here: sharing photos and files) as they get to me more quickly and easily as they don’t have to go via the office and my e-mail. Please can either your child’s name or face (but not both) be visible on any photos. Many thanks.
Hello,
2 circles, 10 circles and one hundred circles!
That is a lot of circles, Victoire! I love all of the circles and start on your shape picture too.
Good morning,
Esmeralda created a bicycle out of different shapes.
The Frame is a rectangle
WheelS are circles
Seat is a square.
Handlebar is a triangle
Bell is 2 circles
Light is a semi circle
Greetings.
I love your bicycle made of shapes. Well done, Esme.
Ania likes this book very much.
The caterpillar left such holes because she was hungry.
The holes are on 1 apple, 2 pears, 3
plums, 4 strawberries, 5 oranges and on chocolate cakes, ice cone, pickle, slice od swiss cheese, slice of salami, lollipop, piec of cherry pie, sausage, cupcake,
slice of watermelon and it is 10 holes all together 5 holes on green leaf.
So many holes! Well done, Ania.
James said there were holes as he munched through everything. He was hungry. He counted all the holes correctly.
James has made his work of art using squares. We will send
Well done, James. Great counting. I love your square picture.
Caspian enjoyed the story and he made his on art work without any help.
He counted the circles and said the holes in the leaves are circle because the caterpillar shape is like circle .
Well done, Caspian. I think you’re right-the circles are made by the caterpillar munching and crawling through the food and the leaves. I love your shape painting.
Hello Miss Siswick,
I made some triangles, squares, diamonds and a rectangle out of magformer magnets. I made a rectangle car out of duplo. My duplo house has lots of squares and rectangles in it.
Sometimes caterpillars crawl through my grandas lettuce. They make a hole which is a circle with their teeth and mouths. They love the green leaves like the caterpillar in the book.
Well done, Fiadh. You have used lots of different shapes. Some caterpillars have been crawling through the plants in my garden too!
Hello Miss Siswick,
We read the book. Alexander said the caterpillar leaves holes because he eats into the apples. He said the holes are circles and correctly counted the circles by counting the holes on the different pages for each day of the week.
Talking together: Alexander said the circles look like holes and there are many circles. He counted 12 circles in the squares and noticed the different colours such as blue, red and black.
He painted circles and triangles.
Well done, Alexander. Great counting. I love your shape painting.
Grace drew circles And counted and wrote 12!!
Great circles, Grace. fantastic number writing too.
I love your Kandinsky circles. Well done, Aoife.
Good morning Miss Siswick,
We had a rest yesterday. When Nicolas saw the book today he said:“ I love this book and I have it in school“. The holes have that shape so the caterpillar can get through ( We saw him climbing out the apple after he had munched it ). Nicolas counted 15 holes on the first page (no problem up to 14; needed help with 15), 10 holes on the second page and 5 holes on the leaf.
Greetings from Nicolas ?
Well done, Nicolas. Keep practicing counting objects to 15.
