Reconciliation
Last week we learnt about the meaning of sin and the examination of life (conscience). You made some excellent posters encouraging Christians about how they can choose wisely.
Today we are going to understand how God forgives us.
God is always loving and forgiving and here is a story that Jesus told that shows this.
Read the story of the Prodigal son below – Luke 15: 11-32.
Key Questions to reflect on about the story
(You don’t need to post the answers on the blog, you can discuss them with a family member to show your understanding)
What did the younger son choose to do with his money?
What were the consequences of his choices?
What do you think it means in the story when it says: ‘he came to his senses’?
What did he plan to say to his father?
What words did he use that meant he had done wrong?
What does the story tell us about the father?
Who is the father like?
Look at the picture of the Prodigal Son below.
Rembrandt’s The Return of the Prodigal Son.
Discuss with a family member what is happening in the picture and what the characters might be thinking.
God is full of mercy and compassion. God always loves you but does not like sin.
Task 1
A famous painting of the Prodigal Son has mysteriously vanished from a famous Art gallery, the day before a big showcase event, where hundreds of people will tour the gallery.
The Art gallery need a new representation of the Prodigal Son painting to display in the gallery for the tour guide to give a commentary (explanation) about during the evening of the event.
Your task is to create a new piece of artwork based on the Prodigal Son so that it can be displayed in the Art gallery.
You may like to reflect on the story and think about which scene you might like to sketch/paint/colour.

Remember to take your time and put in your very best effort!
Task 2
Once you have finished your artwork, write a paragraph explaining why you think the gallery should display your artwork as a replacement. Describe what scene you have chosen and how your art tells the story of the Prodigal Son.
Click below to watch a video of the story.
Be careful when you watch the video on YouTube as sometimes things can pop up. Always ask an adult to help you.
1. The younger son decided to spend his money.
2. The consequence was that he didn’t have enough food.
3. I think the bit in the story were it says ‘ He came to his senses’ means ‘ He suddunly relised ‘.
4. He planed to say to his Father “Father I have sinned against heaven and against you, I don’t deserve to be called your son, treat me as one of your paid servants.
Well done Ophelia, you have reflected well on the story 🙂 What do you think this story tells us?

Superb picture Graceanne, this would look great displayed in the Art gallery!
Miss i have done the maths.
hello Miss
I discussed the questions with my Mum
I chose to draw the scene of the party when the father welcomes back his son because the scene shows the father is nice and loves his sons although the youngest has sinned and spent all of his money.
I tihnk my artwork should be displayed because it’s a nice part of the story and it shows that God loves us no matter what we do . and also I like parties so that’s why I decided to draw this and it was fun to draw
I will send my picture now

Well done Malgosia 🙂
Hello Miss,
I decided to represent the moment where the father welcomed back his son. I found this moment very moving. It is moving, because the son is full of regrets and is not even looking for forgiveness and the father despite what his son has done is receiving him with a big hug full of love and his showing mercy. A true illustration of redemption and Christian love. It is for these reasons that the gallery should display my artwork.
Thanks for sending your work in Clemence, your picture is very powerful. Well done for giving a clear explanation about your work, I think the gallery would definitely showcase your work!
