Workbook: 5A
Chapter: 3 Multiplication and Division
Lesson: 18 Dividing 4 digit numbers
printer-friendly version: Tuesday maths blog
Today’s focus: Dividing 4 digit numbers
The easiest way to solve this question is by using number bonds.
It is quite simple: you just partition the number (2528) into 2000, 500, 20, and 8. All these numbers cannot be divided exactly by the divisor, 8, so we need to try again.
Do 2100, 2200 and 2300 divide by 8 exactly? What about 2400? What would be left over? Can 128 be divided by 8 exactly? What about 80? What would be left over? 48? Can 48 be divided by 8 exactly?
You could also use long division to solve this problem.
Which method is your favourite? Why?

Hi everyone! ?
I finished the math today and it was quite easy ?.
I got some questions wrong but I learned from them in the end ?.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your day ?!
Making mistakes is how we learn! Brilliant 🙂
Hello Miss,
I finished my math.
Hi Violette, please do not post your surname on the blogs (online safety). I have been removing it for you.
Well done for finishing the maths – how did you find it?
Good morning everyone, I did the maths and found it very easy. I think I am getting the hang of division now. Have a good day everyone, bye!
I am so glad you are ‘getting the hang of division now’!
Dear Mrs Avdiu,
Today, I worked out the division exercises on the online MNP as I had already done it in my workbook! I enjoyed today’s task and I worked it out in my Home Learning Tasks Book. I found it quite easy and got 6/6 when my dad marked it. However, I found their method very confusing so I just did it the normal way ( the bus stop method).
Thank you for the Zoom as it was so cool to see everyone’s faces again! Thank you for showing us Aron; he is so cute! Enjoy your day!
Hi Jeanne – that is absolutely fine! The important thing is to equip you all with different ways and you can use whichever one you find easiest 🙂 I am so pleased you enjoyed the Zoom! Aron looks forward to saying hello again next Monday! I am looking forward to seeing you all again too.
Hello Mrs Avdiu, I am now trying to comment more so here’s my comment 🙂
I found it very easy but to be very honest, I forgot how to do it at first since it has been a while… Luckily, my brother helped me remember! Thank you for the daily tasks and for putting your time and effort in! I hope you enjoy the rest of your day
Good bye! 🙂
Oh thank you Maya! I always enjoy hearing from you:) I am glad you found it useful to revise this! You are very welcome Maya. Thank you for such a lovely message. Have a lovely day.
