Workbook: 5A
Chapter: 3
Lessons: 20 Chapter Consolidation – Review 3
printer-friendly version: Thursday maths blog
Good morning Year 5,
Well done for all your hard work on revising Multiplication and Division!
Remember to keep practising your times tables:
Today we will revisit our learning of multiplication and division by attempting to solve some problems that require either/or/ both.
First, check if you are confident in all of the below. If not, you may have to go back to previous blogs and revisit until you are super confident 🙂
Have a go at this problem:
The answers can be found on MNP online. Did you manage to find the answer?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuMGYWPlIM0
Once you have watched the videos and completed the Review/ Mind Workout, please try the consolidation: Multiplication and Division word problems
If you are feeling confident with Multiplication and Division, why not try the extension: Multiplication and Division word problems extension and/or division-word-problems remainders in context?
If you feel like doing more maths try: nrich:multiplication and division problems
Please ask any questions in the comments! Also, let us know in the comments how you feel now about multiplication and division. Are you confident? Do you still have anything to work on? Is there a particular times table you know you need to keep revising? Let’s share 🙂
Good luck
Mrs Avdiu xx
Today is not my working day so Miss Carruthers will respond to the blogs. If you send any files today please send them for the attention of Miss Carruthers!
Hello everyone!
I hope that you are all safe and well!
I did today’s Maths No Problem task and I also did the extension work.
I enjoyed it very much!
Have a great day!
Well done Nika! I’m glad you enjoyed it so much! Hope you have a good day too 🙂
Good morning everyone!
I hope you are all well!
I really enjoyed today’s maths task.
I hope you all have a nice day!
Morning Tommasso! Im so glad you enjoyed the task today 🙂
Hello everyone!
I finished the maths assignment all on my own, and found some thing a bit hard but then I got the hang of it, and then it started to get easier.
I hope you all have a wonderful day.
Maia????
That is wonderful to hear! The best way to get better at something is to keep trying, so really well done! 🙂
Good morning everyone, I hope that you are all well. I have done the maths and got them all right. It was very easy and simple. I hope you enjoy the rest or the day.
Brilliant work Elsa! Did you try the extension task?
I have a question for the Mind Work Out About Pebbles
Does every problem have it´s own answer ??
No, but each problem gives you a clue as to what the final answer is!
For example, if you look at the first statement:
In the bag there are pebbles from Wrexham and Crewe,
One pebble is left if I make groups of two
This tells us that the total number must be an odd number because it is 1 more than a multiple of 2.
Don’t worry about the place names, just focus on the numbers!!
Hello,
I have just finished the maths Review 3 and I will do the extension now.
Have a great day everyone!?✨
Well done Sebastiao! Good luck 🙂
Good morning Miss Carruthers, I have finished the math worksheets and extension for today. They were really fun.
I’m glad you enjoyed them so much 🙂
I got all the answers correct ✅. ? I hope that you have a great day!
Well done, and thank you! I hope you have a good day too 🙂
Hello everyone I found the extensions fun and easy I hope everyone has a great day ?????☺️
Well done Mathilde. 🙂 What did you work out the pebble answer being?
Dear Miss Carruthers
In one of the problems I need to divide a number by a two-digit number. However, we did not learn how to do this. Could you ask Mrs Avdiu to teach us during this Division topic?
Many thanks in advance,
Jeanne
That’s a really good point Jeanne, I’ll pass the message along 🙂
Hi Jeanne. The reason why this is not taught in Year 5 or in any of all the MNP division worksheets we have completed is because it is a Year 6 objective! The National Curriculum says that in Year 5 you will learn to ‘divide numbers up to 4 digits by a one-digit number’ and in Year 6 you will learn to ‘ divide numbers up to 4 digits by a two-digit number’. I have checked MNP and none of the questions require you to divide by a two digit number. Good luck solving the problems!
Dear Mrs Carruthers
Thank you for responding so quickly!
To let you know, my parents can’t teach me as they use the French method (which I find very confusing) and they don’t understand the bus stop method!
I hope you enjoy the rest of your afternoon.
Jeanne
You’re welcome! Sometimes Maths can be hard with all the different options. All that really matters is that you find a way that works best for you. Hopefully Mrs Avdiu can check this out for you. Have a lovely evening 🙂
