It has been wonderful to welcome the new Year 6 class!
We started our time together with a PSHE day exploring ‘Rights and Responsibilities’. Firstly we learnt that there are basic human rights shared by all people and all societies and that children have their own special rights set out in the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child. It was great to discuss the UNCRC and we learnt that, in order to respect these rights, we all have different kinds of responsibilities at home, at school and in the community.
As a class, we decided that we would like to focus on Article 28:
Article 28 of the UNCRC says that children and young people have the right to education no matter who they are: regardless of race, gender or disability; if they’re in detention, or if they’re a refugee.
To respect this right, we all came up with five responsibilities. We drew round our hands and wrote a responsibility on each finger. We then put all our hands onto the display to create our Class Charter. This Class Charter will remind us about the importance of respecting Article 28-‘All children have the right to education’.
