Over the past couple of weeks Year 6 have been working on their Design Technology project reflecting ‘Make Do and Mend’.
‘Make do and Mend’ was a scheme introduced by the government to encourage people to revive and recycle worn-out clothes in times of harsh rationing. In WW2, Christmas luxuries were especially hard to come by so gifts for children were often homemade using recycled materials.
In response to this Year 6 were set the following criteria:
-
Make a children’s game using scrap materials
-
It should be attractive to your target market
-
It should include resources for two players
After receiving the criteria, the children set about designing and making their game-designs ranged from ‘snakes and ladders’ to ‘puppets’ to ‘guess who’! Out of scrap materials (including old trousers, skirts and t shirts!), the children created wonderful games and we all enjoyed playing them!
This week, the children will evaluate how successfully they met the set criteria.
Well done Year 6!
