Thank you to Katie Waring from the Catholic Children’s Society who visited our school on Ash Wednesday to promote our Lenten Charity-The Catholic Children’s Society. She explained how the money we raised last year had been used to help poor children across the country by buying them clothing and furniture or providing them with food.
As this year is a special Jubilee Year of Mercy, we are trying to respond to Pope Francis’ call to show mercy to others. The 2016 CCS Lenten Appeal ‘Follow In His Footsteps’ asks children to follow Jesus’ example by exploring how he showed mercy, love and kindness to others.
Today each child has brought home a workbook, a collection box, a reflection sheet and some information for parents.
The children will be collecting money in their boxes during Lent. At the assembly they shared ideas with Katie such as donating their pocket money or giving the money they have saved if they have given up chocolate or sweets. We will be asking for the boxes to be returned at Easter when Mrs Cooper will count how much money we have raised to help those in need. Year 4 will then present a cheque during a special Good Shepherd Mass at Westminster Cathedral.
