Today in Maths we focused on reasoning. We played ‘Which one doesn’t belong?’ as a starter which encouraged us to reason and use mathematical vocabulary.
The puzzles were very thought provoking and we came up with lots of different answers. It was fun as there were no right or wrong answers (but we had to make sure that we explained our reasoning precisely!).
Have a look below. Which one doesn’t belong?
’17 doesn’t belong as it is the only number where the first digit is odd’ D O’N
’65 doesn’t belong because if you add together the digits in the other three numbers, they equal 8. However, if you add 6 and 5 together, they equal 11′. C P
’44 doesn’t belong as it is the only number where the digits are the same.’ KF
‘The bottom left clock doesn’t belong as it is the only clock face which doesn’t have numbers on it’ MP
‘The top left clock doesn’t belong as it is the only clock face where the hands create an acute angle. The hands on the other clock faces make obtuse angles!‘ SL
We then used our reasoning skills to revise multiplication and division.
This lesson was really fun!
In the first one, to me the number 44 as they are the same digits.
In the second one, the top right does not belong because the numbers are written larger than the bottom right and the top left!
Thank you for your comment Nika-I’m glad you enjoyed the lesson! I really enjoyed hearing all your different answers yesterday!
