Reception have been working very hard on their maths!
We have been focusing this term on subitising, a skill that requires the children to instantly recognise the number of objects in a small group, without the need to count them. The class have been practicing this every maths session, using our small counting objects, small numicon and large foam numicon to support their learning. In Reception we are learning to subitise up to 5!
Another skill Reception have been working very hard on is their number bonds to 10! Each week we have been focusing on a different number, linking the number digit with its physical amount and partitioning the numbers 1-10 in different ways. Reception have been fantastic at finding new ways to make each number, and have been resourceful when using different objects or props to support them. Their knowledge of number bonds to ten has progressed very well.
