During our Religious Education sessions we have been learning all about Pentecost – a time when the Holy Spirit was sent by Jesus to visit the disciples. We know that the Holy Spirit appeared to the disciples as a flame on each of their heads, impressive winds and a white dove. The Holy Spirit give them the strength and ability to tell the world the good news; that Jesus had risen and ascended into heaven.
We have been thinking about how we would feel if we were the disciples, seeing flames on our heads and being able to speak new languages! The class discussed the many emotions the disciples could have been feeling. The children used their phonics to help them write the emotions of the disciples. We created headbands for each child, showing a flame on each head. This represented the flame from the Holy Spirit.
Reception were fantastic at applying their phonics independently, writing many different words onto their beautifully creative headbands. In class each child was able to retell the story of Pentecost and its special meaning to us as Christians.
