This week Year 4 began their first Relationships and Health module ‘Created and Loved by God’ and our first unit is all about ‘Me, My Body and My Health’.
In our first lessons we discussed why we are all different and how our similarities and differences should be celebrated because we are all made in the image of God.
We met first met the animated character of AJ and the characters Sophie and Aidan, who will be played by different pupils in each session to explore topics we cover using role play. Sophie and Aiden’s first dilemma was an argument about which game to play in the playground. The children each wanted to play a different game and blamed one another for not wanting to play because they thought they were ‘rubbish’. We discussed how being called ‘rubbish’ by one of our friends might make us feel and what we might do to solve this problem if we were in their shoes.
Year 4 had some brilliant ideas such as apologising to their friend, playing with someone different or asking if they could take turns to play both games together.
The class learnt that feeling included, being the best at something and even wearing something we are really comfortable in can make us feel confident about ourselves. Self-confidence is important to everyone. Sometimes we can lose confidence but we must remember that we are all children of God, who loves us unconditionally and we are made in his image. We looked at difference scenarios of children who had different talents and things they lacked confidence in such as swimming, a spelling test or even computer games. Everyone agreed that they each had talents and things they lacked confidence in.
Our task was to make our own character card with some of our talents and something we felt we could use some more confidence in. Later we reflected on how we felt knowing that we are God’s children and how this can help us to increase our confidence.
What is something that gives you self-confidence?
Dear Mr Kersys,
Something that helps me build my self confidence is thinking of good things and trying my best to concentrate. I also remember that God has sent Jesus to forgive us so then I know that Jesus will always forgive me when I did something wrong!
Dear Mr Kersys
Something that helps me grow my self confidence is if I’m stuck I can ask my mum or dad for help. I can also remember God sent Jesus to take away our sins and I can try and do the things I’m not good at, say to myself I’m not good at this YET!!
Well done Year 4, this looks like a great way to appreciate our talents and gifts and remember that you should always persevere if you are finding something difficult and that no matter what happens you will always be one of God’s children and be loved by him.
That looks fun!
