Today we welcomed a Rocio from the Catholic Children’s Society (CCS) for a special assembly to find out about all of the wonderful work the charity do to support local families and suggest some ways we can help them to continue this vital work through the Lent Appeal.
We began the assembly began by discussing the special ways we try to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and care for others throughout the 40 days of Lent. To remember Jesus and his sacrifice we follow 3 special pillars: praying, fasting and giving.
Rocio then introduced this year’s CCS Lent appeal: ‘Building Bridges’ which is based on the teachings of Pope Francis and Catholic Social Teaching:
We heard about all of the different ways that the CCS help children through their services including the Crisis Fund:
Rocio shared a story with us about Ollie, whose family had black mould in their flat which destroyed their belongings and affected their health. Thankfully, the CCS was able to support Ollie’s family through the Crisis Fund to find a new flat and buy the necessities they need to live a comfortable and happy life.
The money raised means that the CCS can buy food, clothing and furniture for children like Ollie.
At school we will be raising money for CCS with an own clothes day and we will also be collecting money at home during the 40 days of Lent in our CCS Lent appeal boxes:
Thank you to Rocio and the CCS for visiting us and telling us all about the different ways we can raise money to support the CCS Lent appeal and give to those most in need in our local community.
I really enjoyed listening to Rocio from the CCS. It was sad to hear about Ollie’s story but happy as well to hear about how the CCS and his school helped Ollie and his family. I am definitely going to put money in my charity box to help those in need.
