This week was British Science Week at St. Vincent’s! We began the week with a special assembly with Miss Carruthers and Professor Pitty who told us about the theme of this year’s Science Week which is connections!
We heard about the importance of celebrating Science and completed 5 exciting challenges with Professor Pitty such as hypothesising whether a balloon could fly from one side of the room to the other, if we could make wacky bubble shapes and some toothpaste for an elephant using a chemical reaction! We made lots of different observations and had lots of fun seeing Science in action.
Later in the day we spent time in a worship with Professor Pitty making some slime! We learnt about how we could easily make slime at home using water and cornstarch. The class observed how the cornstarch became more and more difficult to stir, the harder we stirred it and how it became gloopy and sticky when we only stirred it a little.
The class then learnt that the chemical reaction which makes slime is called a cross linked polymerisation reaction. Together we created mixtures of glue, colouring and borax before stirring it and watching the chemicals turn into slime in front of our eyes!
Our homework task this week was to create a poster on the theme of connections. Year 4 made lots of brilliant posters about connections using technology, connections between animals and their food chains in nature and even connections in our brains! Well done Year 4!

I enjoyed doing the slime it was an epic day !!!!!!!!!!
Science week was so fun! We got to do a circuit with wires and it was a buzzer and we got to do slime! This week was so fun, thanks Mr Kersys.☺️
Science week was amazing. I enjoyed making the slime and doing everything else.
