Year 1 had a fabulous visit to the October Gallery yesterday!
We started our day by catching the bus to a park close to the Gallery. We were very lucky the rain held off, and we were able to have a lovely picnic together with our packed lunches. I think this was everyone’s favourite part of the day! We also got to have a little play in the park before heading into the Gallery.
We were met by Esther and Hannah, who were leading our workshop. We were there to visit an exhibition but the very talented Jukhee Kwan, who is a South Korean artist who uses paper from books to create beautiful sculptures. This tied in very nicely with the work we had been doing in Art with collage and using paper in different ways. We started off by carefully looking around the exhibition and matching some close ups we had of the sculptures to their real life match. We then found our favourite piece and gave reasons why. Esther was very impressed with the language Year 1 was using to describe the sculptures. Next up we all sat around large pieces of paper and listened to music while we drew the music. This was very fun and relaxing! It was next our turn to be sculptures like Jukhee Kwan, and we used foil to create flowers. This was very tricky to mould the foil in the right place. Finally we drew spirals in a large piece of paper and then cut them out to show just how much paper can come from one bit of paper.
We had a really great day!
Looks like you guys had plenty of fun!
We did thank you Gabriella!
I enjoyed going to the gallery October
