Our new topic for Summer 1 is… ‘Traditional Tales!’
This is an exciting topic filled with lots of opportunities to explore reading and learning about a variety of different traditional tales. Some of these will include…
The Gingerbread Man, Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella.
Throughout this topic we will identify the main characters in different stories, and talk about their feelings, actions and motives.
We will develop our communication and language through lots of role-play of different characters and create our own puppet shows to build on the skill of retelling stories.
We would love to find out about what characters you know already from a Traditional Tale.
Do you know the name of a character from a Traditional Tale?
Which Traditional Tale are they from?
What do you like about this character?
We will share all of your responses in class which will create some fantastic discussions!
The Gingerbread man because he is yummy and sometimes he gets eaten and sometimes it’s a happy or sometimes it’s a sad ending.
I like the witch from Hansel and Gretel. I like when she pretends to be an old lady. And I like when Hansel and Gretel push her into the fire. I also like Hansel and when Hansel leaves a trail of breadcrumbs and stones behind so that they can find their way home.
I like Hansel and Gretel, I like that Hansel left breadcrumbs on the floor to find there way back home and I also like that but Hensel and Gretel were brave together.
I love the fairy godmother from Cinderella. I like her because she changes Cinderella’s raggy dress into a beautiful gown for the ball. The fairy godmother is also very kind and she helps Cinderella get ready for the ball.
I like Cinderella from the fairy tale Cinderella because she has a glasses slippers she was so beautiful kind hearted got married to a Prince who dance with her at the ball and became a Princess.
I like Cinderella because she is so kind to everyone, always listens to adults and likes a good party.
I like the story of 3 little pigs because it teaches us to work together and that we are stronger together than apart.
I like the Gingerbread Man. When he gets out of the oven he looks tasty. He thinks he is smarter than everyone else but then the fox eats him all up!
I like Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. Jack trades the family cow for the crazy beans which grow and grow over the night massively. The beanstalk reaches up into the clouds. I think Jack is brave and adventurous. I wish I have the crazy beans so I can have my own beanstalk and I can climb it all the way up in the sky like Jack! Fee-fi-fo-fum.
I like the three little pigs because the third pig builds the strongest house and teaches the other two pigs to not be lazy. I also like when the wolf says, I huff and I puff and I blow your house down.
Puss in boots because he is a super hero and saves everyone one with his sword!
I like gingerbread man because it’s funny and delicious. The gingerbread man trusted the fox but this one ate him.
This story teaches us to be careful of who we trust.
I like the Gingerbread Men because I like to help my mum cut cookies when we bake them. It’s very funny and tasty.
My favourite story tale is the Three Little Pigs.
I really like the moment when the wolf shows up and knocks on the first little pig’s house and the little pig is running away to the older pig’s house. The story taught me that we need to work hard like the oldest pig who built the house of bricks and we always need to help each other when we are in need.
My favourite character is Cinderella. She is a princess and wears a beautiful dress to the ball. Cinderella has a kind heart and helps people around.
I love the Gingerbread Man because the fox eats the Gingerbread Man and it’s really funny.
My favourite story is Cinderella. I love the magic of the fairy Godmother who makes her gown, gives her glass slippers, and turns the pumpkin into a carriage.
Well done Reception. I loved your assembly.
My favourite tale is Cinderella because she gets to go to the ball and dance with the prince.
