We have LOVED learning about Ancient Egypt so far! This week we had an extraordinary English lesson where we practiced our debating skills! We have been reading The Story of Tutankhamun and we learned there are three different theories about his cause of death. Was it an accident, illness or murder? We began our lesson with a discussion about fact vs. opinion. We said when we debate, we need to try to base our answers mostly in fact.
Next, we had the chance to go around the classroom to each station and learn the details of each potential cause. We took notes as we went and formed our own ideas. Then it was time to debate! We each shared what we thought the cause was and got to counter other people’s points. We really impressed our teacher with how respectful we were of other ideas. There were some pretty convincing arguments on all sides! We learned that historians today are still debating the cause! Perhaps we will know more in the future!
Well done Year 3, for your excellent oracy skills!
