This morning, we welcomed lots of parents into school to learn more about the key ingredients needed to be a good writer.
During the workshop, we discussed the early stages of writing and the importance of rich opportunities for pre-writing in the Early Years Foundation Stage. We talked about the beginning stages of letter formation and how this is developed through daily phonic sessions. These sessions build on the sequence of learning, progressing into spelling and learning the fundamentals of writing a sentence.
Miss Jones shared the key components involved in the writing process including identifying purpose and audience, shared reading, opportunities for oracy and vocabulary, creating a toolkit for writing, planning, drafting and editing writing. The writing journey is a process and we want our children to take pride in their writing, developing their creative flair and engaging their audience.
We discussed some easy steps to support children at home with their writing and parents had the opportunity to ask some questions.
After the workshop we invited parents to see some writing in action around the school!
Thanks to all of the parents who joined us for the workshop this morning.
