We have started our new Science topic of States of Matter and this week, we got to conduct a very fun experiment all about looking at how long it takes different solids to melt!
We began by recapping the different states of matter we have already learnt about previously last week which were solids, liquids and gases. We also learnt about how the particles are arranged within each of the states and what happens during each process of change. We know that these changes of states are reversible meaning that a liquid can be turned back into a solid (freezing) and a gas can be turned back into a liquid (condensation).
Our experiment aim was to see how long it took butter, chocolate and ice to melt from a solid into a liquid. We began by making a hypothesis about each solid in regards to what order they would melt in. We then had to be sure it was a fair test by weighing out the same amount of each solid before placing them in a beaker. Next, we placed each beaker onto our heat source and started our timers. Whilst we were waiting (as this can a lengthily time) we wrote up our experiment and drew some diagrams to show what was going on.
The results were very interesting!
What did you observe during our Science lesson?
I love science experiments. I bet you all enjoyed this science class. Which one melted first?
Wow, year four that looks really fun. I hope you enjoyed your science lesson
SO COOL!!!
I voted for chocolate to melt the fasted but sadly I was incorrect.
However, I had had so much fun watching everything on the radiator.
I hope that Yr4 can do more fun topics like this one.
