Year 6 had an exciting STEM-filled afternoon with six Year 10 pupils and their teachers from Francis Holland School. All six pupils are involved in a project where they are building a mini-satellite that fits in a can and launching it on an ESA rocket! Today, they came to give us a presentation to share what they have been learning.
We then all had great fun building mini rockets using paper and straws, using a template designed by NASA. We tested them by launching them and measuring how far they travelled along the corridor. Many of us also tested them by launching them at the ceiling and some of us accidentally launched ours out of the window! Certificates were awarded for 1st-3rd place as well as best design.
We also had the opportunity to explore robotics by playing with Ozobots, which are little line-following robots. We were able to experiment with “colour coding” to give the bots instructions for line-following.
Many thanks to the Year 10 pupils and their teachers for giving their time to work with us this afternoon. We really appreciate it and learned so much from you.
Amazing NASA rockets. Great job Y6!
I loved it even if my rocket broke.
I loved this workshop. My favourite part was making the Rocket
It was really good and fun
I enjoyed this workshop very much. I learned so much about NASA.
It was so fun – I learnt how to make a rocket out of paper and tape!!🚀🚀🚀🛰🛰🛰🛰🛸🛸🛸🌌🪐🌍🌎🌏🌝🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘🌙🌚🌛🌜☀🌞⭐🌟🌠
My rocket flew out the window but I had a spare! 🤑🤑😌And we got sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeets!😎😎😎
I loved the stem workshop. It was so fun we made so many amazing things and so many memories made 👍😎🐱👓🐱👓🐱👓🐱👤🐱👤🐱👤🐱👤💖😎✌👍 and we got 🤑🤑sweets🤑🤑
It was really fun. I loved blowing my Rocket around the room.
Everyone from Francis Holland were very nice and friendly , they also helped me a lot to build my rocket. Best workshop this year ! I hope we can do something like this again.
I had so much fun and I loved the competitions. My favourite part was playing with the Ozobots.
The workshop was super exciting and I thoroughly enjoyed it .I loved the idea of can-sat and making rockets was a very fun project.
I loved making the rockets and I loved using the tiny robots!
I loved it, was amazing
I loved making the rocket but in the end my dog ate it.
I love the STEM workshop it was fun and i loved making the rocket. It took me so long and i blew it in Sophie face and we both made a advert on it. Me and Catherine chased Sophie! I also gave her fresh air.
It was so much fun making the rockets and shooting them all over the class. I loved it.
I loved this workshop and loved blowing the rockets!! I learnt a lot and it was very fun to make the designs.
It was really fun and my favourite part was decorating the rocket. I decorated it with mini aubergines.
I really liked the workshop because we played with robots.
It was so fun shooting my rocket straight up, I even got it stuck on a light so I had to retrieve a meter stick from year 2 to get I down. 😂
It was lots of fun and I threw mine out the window and found it at the end of the day👍
This workshop was so fun to experiment even though for the rocket test mine didn’t go that far. I really liked competing for the best looking rocket which I drew a big aubergine for.
I made another rocket. It broke but I don’t care.
Woah! Looks so fun I can’t wait to do that in Year 6.
WELL DONE YEAR 6!
That sounds outstanding!
Next year I’m yearsix!
