During our trip to the R.A.F. Museum, we learnt about children’s lives during the Second World War. What do you think it would have been like to be a child at this time? What do you think the challenges would have been? How do you think the children’s lives were different from yours?evacuees

  1. Mrs Robinson says:

Despite Year 6 secret thoughts…I was not there in WWII

  2. You’re too young Mrs Robinson.

  3. I agree with diya

  4. During the WW2, there were two groups of countries.
The Nazis and The Allies. In the Nazis there were Italy,Germany and Japan.
In the Allies there were Britian,France,Austrailia,Canada, the Sovient Union,New Zealand,India,China and the USA ( United States of America).
They fought around Europe , Russia , North Africa and Asia.
The War started on 1939 and finished in 1945.

  5. During our visit at the R.A.F Museum, we did a work-shop in which we were pupils during the Blitz… A big HOP back in time and we were writing with fountain-pens and ink !!! It was great fun and we did feel what it was like to live in World War II !!! I hope we’ll be able to come back.

  6. In our WW2 topic, we have done a little role play of how the war started and we all learned lots about Adolf Hitler. I think that the role play helped us alot with our learning.

  7. How did WW2 start…
Worl War 2 started because of Adolf Hitler.
In 1933 the German people voted for a leader named Adolf Hitler, who led a political party in Germany called the Nazis. Hitler promised to make his country great again and quickly began to rule Germany again and to seize land from other countries. Since the end of WW1 Geramany were very poor. A couple of years passed and Germany had already taken over lots of countries, but when they came to invade Poland, Hitler didn’t realise Poland was already teaming with Great Britain. On the 3rd September 1939 the British Prime Minister- Nevile Chamberlain, declared war against Germany.
    The War had started.

  8. It was really exciting traveling back in time to World War 2.Everything looked so different back then and all the teachers were really strict and harsh. No one used pencils , we all used the proper pens with small ink bottles placed in a hole at the corner of the wooden tables. We weren’t allowed to write large hand writing,we could only use small ,neat handwriting that wasn’t crammed, to save paper. There was a air raid in the middle of the lesson and everyone had to crawl under our tables and even Mr Vernon put on his helmet. At the end of the lesson Bauti got caned on his back ,which made EVERYBODY ‘laugh. We had so much fun!

  9. The worst thing that happened was when I got caned-for one second I thought it was real.

  10. I would not like to be one of the children who had to leave their homes and family in world war 2!
    Would you???

  11. Definitely not !! Because you would have ended up living with some random stranger and be away from your family so No !!

  12. I think it must have been very difficult to be a child during WW2. Evacuation must have been terrifying!

  13. I found out that some children who went to the countryside didn’t want to return to the city!

  14. Some children were evacuated to SAYERS CROFT! Mostly boys, not fair!!

  15. I agree, it was really funny when Bauti got caned.
Lucky it wasn’t me, otherwise I would have a laugh attack.
    Poor Bauti!!
Thnaks to Ms Hackett, Mrs Hicks and the parents for taking us to the wonderful trip and planning our topic.

  16. IT was REALLY hard to use ink pens.

  17. Olaf Year 2 says:

In the World War 2 they needed to have strangers as their parents.

  18. Yes Olaf, the children had to be very strong and there wasn’t texting so the children wrote letters to their parents. Would you like to be one of the children in WW2?

  19. It was probably hard living in World War 2 because people were trying to not get killed by all the bombs. The Blitz was during World War 2 and many people got killed. It was all started by Hitler (Adolf Hitler). Many countries in the world got bombed; Westminster got 1,436 high explosive bombs and 10 parachute mines. I wouldn’t have liked to be in the war !!! Mia ?

  20. Great comments everyone. Wow, Mia- that’s a lot of damage experienced by the people living in Westminster.
What qualities do you think that children living through World War 2 would have needed?

  21. Wow! Your trip sounds fantastic year 6, I am so jealous WW2 was my favourite topic when I worked in Yr6 with Miss Hackett. We never went to the RAF museum although we did visit the war museum.
    Mrs Lynch 🙂

  22. I agree with Mia. It must have been REALLY hard and scary to live in Westminister during WW2 (especially for the children).
I think the qualities that the children needed to have are- braveness, hope, faith and to always believe in God no matter what happens.

  23. I agree with Mia and Isadora

  24. Hitler did not want to do the some approach as WW1 because he wanted to take all the other countries by surprise. So Hitler had the idea of the Blitz which was short for a Germany word “blitzkrieg”-this means lightning war. His idea was to get all the Nazi planes to fly over whatever country he wanted and then make them throw bombs over and over again! This did take most countries by surprise. ✈️
    Scarlett??

  25. It was so much FUN!!!!!!!!!!!:)??
    I loved it?

  26. The children in WW2 must have been so brave! I found out that if you had a brother or sister you would probably be separated during evacuation.

  27. You’re sooo lucky you got to go to the War Museum .
I’m desperate to go there and find all sorts of amazing facts about WW2.

  28. Maju year 3 says:

They had to work in metropolitan train stations and at the age of 14 they wanted to fight for their country children had to wake up earlier than us because alarms woke them up oh and gas mask practice was for nothing because there were no bombs on the dangerous gases and bomb air aid shelters were used to avoid bombs
