During science week, class 5 enjoyed being engineers and working with the MACE team, where they each worked in groups and took on the role of architects and construction managers to ensure they could build a tall building which was waterproof and could withstand strong winds.
The children did a fantastic job at creating their original buildings – there are definitely some future architects amongst us. After the children constructed their buildings out of newspaper and masking tape, the engineers measured the height and then did a wind test (using a hairdryer) and a water resistant test (sprinkling water on the models).
Most buildings met the brief and were very strong. However, there could only be one winner, and that was the Porcupine Tower, which was 2.25m tall – the tallest model in the whole school.
On Friday, we had science morning with Class 6, where the children could explore different activities from marbling milk, paper aeroplanes, lava lamps, paper cups, exploring fingerprints to balloons. A good time was had by all!
