Our school trip to the Tower of London was nothing short of fantastic.

Our day kicked off with a short walk to Baker Street station where we hopped onto the Circle line that whisked us away to Tower Hill, from here we took the short walk to the entrance of the Tower of London. En route we spotted the remains of the old Roman walls and caught a glimpse of some ravens high above the castle walls.

Once inside the Tower we were met with what can only be described as the best tour guide that we have ever met, his name was Mr. Nicholas Quick and he was dressed head to toe in the latest fashion – from  17th century London. He was even wearing a tricorne hat.

Mr. Quick took us to the courtyard just outside the entrance to the tower and regaled us with tales of the tower and the Great Fire of London. We surprised him with just how much we knew about the fire as we were able to answer every question that he threw at us.

Once inside the tower we were taken to a side room that is reserved for VIP guests like ourselves and Mr. Quick re-enacted the events of the faithful day in September 1666 when a tiny spark from a bakery resulted in the destruction of the city. This was a fantastic immersive lesson where everybody had a part to play, be it Thomas Farriner, Samuel Pepys or a resident of London at the time. Some of us (including parents) even pretended to be famous Landmarks including St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London.

After this we then made our way to the lunch room and took a few minutes to refuel and relax before continuing our journey. We then got to see the crown jewels and I can safely say that we were blown away by their beauty. We even saw a crown that was made 5 years before the Great Fire. The highlight for this part of the trip was the travellator that took us along the glass cases that were filled to the brim with royal regalia.

By now we were all getting a little bit tired so we took a nice walk around the tower perimeter. Here we had a chance to see some of the houses that survived the Great Fire because they were built inside the castle walls. These houses were made of wood and stood in stark contrast to the stone walls of the castle. We were really happy to see that they survived. We then took a quick walk over to the famous ravens before making our way back to St. Vincent’s.

Oh and I almost forgot, we were lucky enough to bump into several Yeomen of the Guard ( nicknamed Beefeaters) and even took a picture with them. See below!

In all it was a fantastic day filled with fun, laughter and lots of learning.

A huge thank you to the parents that joined us on the trip today.

We can’t wait for our next adventure!
