Every year the St. Vincent’s Parents’ Association holds an auction to raise much needed funds for the school. The money is used to purchase basic materials such as pencils and books but also to enhance the curriculum with exciting trips and visitors, and also to maintain the building in it s current lovely condition. This year one of the amazing auction lots was a day with the First Sea Lord. Please see below to find out more. Thank you to Sir Ben Key for this generous donation of an amazing experience and also for the information book which was kindly gifted to the school.

Sir Ben Key (First Sea Lord) Who is He?

Sir Ben Key had many different jobs such as Chief of Joint Operations, fleet comander and Chief Naval Warfare Officer, Flag Office Sea Training and has held command of the HMS Illustrious Jet Carrier. Sir Ben is the highest ranking commander in the navy.

What we did at the visit

At their house we cooked with a super chef from the royal navy. Together we made home-made pasta with cream cheese sauce and a parmesan crisp. To top it off, for dessert we made an overflowing lemon tart. After cooking we got the wonderful opportunity of a lifetime to interview the one and only Sir Ben Key himself and we were given a thorough and detailed explanation of how the most fascinating devices and gadgets (proudly presented by the navy on their website) work, how they were made and what they are used for. Once we sat down to enjoy and spectate what all our efforts had been put into and it did not disappoint! We feasted on beautiful plated dishes just waiting to be eaten. This was all for lunch.

Why he is so important

Sir Ben Key is so important because he plays the roles of so many different people organising specific task to be completed.

We graciously thank Sir Ben Key for his priceless time and effort he put into our visit just to make it the best experience we could possible have.

Yours sincerely,

From ST and JT
