This week Year 4 had the privilege of visiting Lambeth Palace for the Wintershall Advent Traveling Crib.

After traveling by tube and walking across Westminster Bridge, we arrived at Lambeth Palace and were welcomed by the Wintershall Education Team. Firstly we got to have our snacks before gathering around the Advent circle to start our workshop which gave us the opportunity to dig deeper into the Christmas story. We were so excited as we were given a pilgrim/advent bag for our journey and was told that at every stop, we would be given a special present to place into it.

We then walked to our first stop which was Elizabeth as she described her message from an angel that she would have a son and have to call him John. She gave us a lovely feather for our bags. Next as we walked on the path, we were stopped by some shepherds who told us how he saw a star in the sky and he even took us to see his sheep. After being escorted by a Roman solider, we met Mary who described her experience as she got ready to have her baby. She asked us for advice on what she needs to do to be ready to look after a baby.

The Wise Man was our next stop as he described how he was studying the stars and saw that the prophecy had come true that the saviour would be born soon. He shared the gifts of frankenstein, gold and myrrh and we got to take a small jewel with us as a present.

Lastly, we met two donkeys called Sam and Frodo who were being prepared to help travel back for the census. We even got to get them some lovely treats. We then finished with a whole group reflection with the aims of thinking how we could spread this message throughout Advent.

Thank you so much to the SVPA for funding this trip and Wintershall for inviting us to such a special journey to Bethlehem!

I found this experience very interesting. My favourite part was when the king showed us the gold, frankincense and myrrh. I love my keepsake gift. Thank you Mr. Garnet for organising this trip.
