Today we had a very special assembly to launch the Year of the Jubilee 2025!

In this assembly, we learnt that Pope Francis has called a special Jubilee Year for the first time in 25 years! He has chosen the theme ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ for the Jubilee and calls us to join in celebrating it…

We watched a special video by CAFOD which told us more about the history of Jubilee Years and how Jesus came to proclaim the Year of the Lord’s favour. In Luke 4:19 Jesus reminds us that God has chosen him to bring ‘good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free’. Pope Francis calls us to remember the hope Jesus brings and follow in his footsteps to rekindle this hope again during the Jubilee Year.

Together we came to recognised that this is a year of renewal, hope and forgiveness. There are many ways to celebrate the Jubilee. Some people will be going on physical pilgrimage and visiting special Holy Doors such as the one in St. Peter’s Basilica, but we don’t need to go all the way to Italy to join in the celebrations!

Like many children in our global Catholic family, we will be making a Jubilee Pledge to find ways we can become Pilgrims of Hope. Together, we will work to renew and rebuild hope by going on a spiritual pilgrimage and taking action in our local community as part of this Jubilee Year.
