We loved celebrating World Book Day in Year 3! There were so many amazing costumes with loads of thought, effort and creativity going into them! What a wonderful way to celebrate our favourite books and characters!
The day began with a whole school assembly where we got to parade our costumes in front of the rest of the year groups. The staff were all dressed up as characters from Doctor Seuss books so we were able to guess which characters they were dressed up as! After the excitement of assembly, it was a lovely opportunity to get stuck into reading our favourite books which we had brought from home.
After playtime, we really enjoyed having Ms Walsh come up from Nursery to read us the next chapter of ‘The Thames and Tide Club’, the book we are reading in our English lessons and shortly afterwards it was time for the World Book Day Live Lesson hosted online by the BBC. We got to learn about different genres we can try if we’re struggling to find a book we enjoy. Before lunch, Mr Hylton used a section of the ‘Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes and we played musical instruments to recreate the sounds of the Iron Man falling down the cliff.
In the afternoon, we made bookmarks which include recommendations for other books and why. We’re going to keep these bookmarks in the classroom and share them with our friends so that we all have a different recommendation for the next book we’re going to read.
At the end of the day, our parents came in to read with us and we were able to either fetch our younger siblings or be fetched by our older siblings so we could read together. Thank you so much to family members who joined us. We had a lovely day and we’re inspired to try more books because there are so many exciting books out there.
