Have you ever wondered which biscuit is the best for dipping in your tea?
Well, Year 1 had a blast investigating it during Science Week!
Miss Drury asked for Year 1’s help to figure out which biscuits were best suited for her tea, and we were excited to assist!
We started by investigating four different biscuits: a Bourbon, Rich Tea, Ginger Nut, and a Chocolate Digestive. Our challenge was to see how many dips into milk it would take before each biscuit broke. First, we used our scientific knowledge to predict which biscuit would be the strongest. We recorded our guesses in a tally chart. The Chocolate Digestive was the most popular choice because we thought the layer of chocolate would make it stronger. Some children thought the Bourbon might be the winner, thanks to its multiple layers, while others thought the Ginger Nut looked sturdy.
Next, we conducted our investigation, dipping the biscuits into milk and counting the number of dips before they broke. And of course, we got to enjoy the biscuits afterwards!
After the experiment, we discussed our findings and shared observations and ideas about what we might do differently next time:
“We could use a full cup of milk because as we tested the biscuits, the milk level went down, so we didnโt have the same amount each time.”
“We could make the milk hotter; I think the biscuits would break faster.”
“I think the Rich Tea biscuit broke the quickest because itโs not very thick.”
“The Rich Tea doesn’t have layers like the Bourbon biscuit.”
“The Bourbon and Rich Tea biscuits are rectangular, while the others are round.”
“The rectangular biscuits fit better into the milk, so maybe they would break faster.”
What a fun and tasty way to explore science!
It was really fun and dipping and eating the biscuits
