This week, Year 1 have started exploring an exciting new book in English – The Magic Bed by John Burningham. The story follows a young boy named Georgie who discovers a magical bed that takes him on incredible adventures.
We’ve been working hard on developing our descriptive writing skills and becoming more creative writers. To help us, we often imagine ourselves in the author’s shoes and create something inspired by the text. This week, we designed our own magical beds! We thought about what they might look like, where we’d find them, where they could take us, and why we’d want to go to those places. As a class, we shared our ideas on whiteboards before writing our own imaginative sentences. Finally, we published our work on paper for a classroom display and illustrated our very own magical beds.
This was a brilliant lesson that truly showcased everyone’s creativity and wowed us all with the incredible effort and beautiful handwriting. Well done, Year 1 – our English display is going to look amazing!
