Good morning Year 1 !
Today we are going to do some Design and Technology (DT). We will be linking this project to our new class topic of ‘Wish you were here’ – seasides.
You can see a performance of a Punch and Judy show by watching the video above. Make sure you press the pause button at the end so it does not go onto the next video. You don’t have to watch all of it because it is quite long!
In the past people used to watch a theatre puppet show at the seaside – it was called a Punch and Judy show. The first Punch and Judy show was performed over 350 years ago! Here is the story!

I have a Punch and Judy set already. Me and my brother acted out a scene and my mum recorded it. We had fun playing the different characters.
That’s great! I’m glad you had fun!
Hi Miss Travers!
I enjoy cutting and colouring my characters. My daddy draw the characters and my mummy helped me make the stage. We used an old shoe box and color tissue papers to make the stage.
That sounds great! I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished!
I laughed at the film because it was very funny. We will do our show at the weekend as we are all tired.. Have a lovely jumbly mumbly weekend.
Have a lovely weekend!
Hi, Miss Travers! I miss you.
I made a puppet show of Goldilocks and The Three Bears but it’s a bit different because it has a new character – Craig. He saves Goldilocks from the three bears. I created him yesterday on the computer in Busy Things and today I drew him too. I will send you a photo and I would like to send you a video as well. Please let me know if I can do it.
Hello Camila, I miss you all too!
I love your picture! It looks like you have been having fun!
You might be able to upload a video to the homework uploader on the website, if not try sending it to the office email and it will get passed onto me.
Hello Mrs Travers
My dad just emailed my theatre that I have created from a shoebox, wooden spoons, paper and felts. My topic was the seaside with a mermaid that I did by myself.?
Have a nice time.?
Great, I am looking forward to seeing it!
I had so much fun making my theatre with my mum and my dad.?
Hello Miss Travers,
I made my theatre from 2 empty Easter egg boxes. I collected some things-
small rocks – these were the charcters. I drew the faces using markers and colouring in pencils. The people loved eating the meatballs.
I picked some daffodils and used Fiadh’s beanstalk for the garden and collected sticks as the trees in the forest. The people enjoyed finding the hidden fairies.
I used shells I had from the beach for the seafront when the people ate ice-cream.
I had a volcano and when everyone climbed it they had to be careful of it errupting!
Fiadh joined in and the audience loved our show! I will send you a photo.
That sounds brilliant!
Hi Miss I had a great time making the puppets and the display!
It’s great that you enjoyed it, Sebastian!
Thank you for the pictures, I have put them up on this page.
Hello Miss Travers,
I enjoyed a lot this activity and thank you for making me do it. My mother clapped for me a lot.
Hello Fabi,
I am very happy that you enjoyed it! Have a lovely weekend!
Hello Miss Travers,
My puppet show is the three little pigs. I made the theatre out of a breakfast box and the curtains are made out of pink tissue paper. I folded the tissue paper like I was making a fan and then put holes in the top and taped it to the theatre.
I had lots of fun making it and doing the three little pigs puppet show.
Ps sorry it’s late
