Good Morning Year 2!

I absolutely loved our chat yesterday! It was so wonderful to see you all and hear how you are doing. We all miss you lots and I really hope we can see each other properly soon.
Lots of you mentioned how much fun you are having in the park at the moment (as well as how much ice cream you’re eating..!) and so for today’s art activity, we’re going to use the park as inspiration.
If you go to the park and look closely at the trees, you’ll notice that they are bumpy and rough. Which isn’t always how we draw them in our drawings…
No tree trunk is that smooth!
So today we are going to show texture in our drawings by showing how rough the bark is. We can do this by drawing lines onto the trunk to show the rough texture. Have a look at these photos of tree trunks.
To start with, see if you can draw a practise drawing that is just the rough texture of the bark on the tree trunk:
Practise drawing small wavy lines in one direction to make it look rough. If you look in the picture above, you can see that they have move wavy lines on one side compared to the other. This helps your drawing to look more 3D.
Once you are confident with your bark on the tree trunks, you can now do your own picture of the park. Think about which ever park you like to visit the most. We are lucky in London because there are so many great parks!
You may be able to go outside and then you can see the trees in real life and draw them. But if it is raining, then you may just have to use your imagination! You can do your whole drawing in just pencil, or try out using different colours. If you are using coloured pencils, then you may want to lightly colour the tree trunk and then press harder to show the texture.
I’m so excited to see your beautiful parks and trees 🙂
Well done Sophia B! I love that you have drawn yourself cycling through all the trees in the park. Well done for showing the lines on the bark of the tree trunks 🙂
I enjoyed learning how to draw small , long , wavy lines on a tree.
I’m glad you enjoyed it Rafael 🙂 Excellent drawing!
I used charcoal to draw my trees
I love that you used charcoal instead of pencil. Well done for creating great texture of your trees 🙂
Jack, what a beautiful drawing 🙂 I love how you carefully drew your wavy lines more to one side to make it look 3D. Great work ⭐
Well done Romey for showing a bit of texture on your tree. Are those little holes for the birds to live in?
Wonderful Adrien, your tree trunk looks very textured 🙂
There’s lots going on in your picture Rex! Can you tell us about it? Well done for showing texture on your tree trunk! 🙂
Hi Miss
I did three trees with different textures and the coloured one is supposed to look a bit mossy!
I can name six types of tree in the park: Plain, Lime, Oak, Ash, Silver Birch and Weeping Willow.
Brilliant Albert ⭐ I love that you were experimenting with different textures and colour! I’m impressed that you can name some of the trees as well, well done 🙂
Brilliant trees Catherine, well done for putting some texture in the trunks as well as some colour 🙂
I loved this homework!
Greetings,
Sophia
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I love the detail you included in your bark and also in the flowers. You’ve coloured it so nearly and with such bright colours! Well done 🙂
Great texture in your tree Nadine! If you’re doing a whole picture, don’t forget to do the whole background!
What a lovely picture Rebecca 🙂 Your trees look very textured! Don’t forget that the sky reaches all the way down to the grass..!
Well done Finley for trying out different textures for your tree trunks. I hope you could feel the texture on them when you went out to the park 🙂
Wonderful tree Joshua 🙂 You’ve managed to make the tree trunks look very textured, well done!
Beautiful work Sophie 🙂 I love that you used watercolours for your painting. It can be harder to show texture using them but you’ve managed quite well!
Madeleine! I love your tree and all the texture you put in the bark, well done 🙂
