Hello Year 1!
As you know, your new topic for this term is Great Britain and you are going to be looking at British seasides, staring with a fun art lesson today. So…
SKETCH PENCILS AT THE READY!
(If you don’t have a proper sketch pencil at home, just read through the activity and then use whatever you can find at home to draw or create you picture.)
In Victorian times, going to the seaside was very popular. But the Victorians didn’t travel to exotic beaches around the world. They made the most of the beautiful seasides we have right here in Great Britain!
Have a look at this picture of a seaside in Victorian times below.
Although the picture is in black and white, we can still see all of the detail because of the light and dark shades. We are going to try and recreate our own Victorian seaside picture today.
Different pencils give us a slightly different colour on our page, like the ones below:
You might have some of these pencils at home. If not, you might have a grey and black colouring pencil. Or try pressing really carefully with your pencil on your page for a lighter shade and pressing much harder on your page to create a darker shade.
The pictures below show some Victorian seaside scenes. Have a look at them and see if you can notice which parts are lighter and which parts are darker.
When you have completed your artwork send in a photo of it and I will make a Year 1 art gallery on this blog so that we can all see each other’s work!
Remember to try to use dark and light shading to create your picture!
I can’t wait to see your creations!
