Welcome, Year 5!
Each week we are going to post a Big Question to discuss for our Religious Education topic of ‘Sacrifice’. These questions often require a lot of thinking and discussing, so talk to your family and talk to your friends on the blog. Other people’s answers might make you think about something else.
This week’s Big Question:
What does sacrifice mean in daily life?
Include examples of when you have had to sacrifice something in your daily life.
Please proof-read your response before submitting (check punctuation, spelling and grammar).
We look forward to reading your responses,
Mrs Avdiu & Ms Robertson
Hi Yr 5!
I hope you are all well.
Sometimes I give up my seat on public transport to someone more needy than myself, I often have bags of heavy shopping or feel really tired at the end of the day, but am willing to sacrifice my seat.
That’s very kind of you!
Hello Ms Robertson and Mrs Avdiu! I really like your example Ms Robertson. I think sacrifice in daily life means where you are giving up very small things that have a very big impact on someone. For example, if you are just walking down the street and you see someone who is homeless, if you give them a smile that mght make them fell really good, especially if they have been ignored all day. A time that i have had to give something up is when i was going to my saturday classes for drama, my friend was having to stay there all day, I was only going for the morning, she had forgotten her snack and I had lots of food with me. I was quite hungry but I gave my snack to her because she was not going to get food for a whole day.
Hi Elsa, thank you for your wonderful comment. Just a little feedback on your written post… I have to admit it was a little tricky to read! Please could you check the comma splicing ( way too many commas which could easily be replaced with full stops!) and check the spelling before reposting? That would be great! Thank you Elsa
Hi Y5 !
In daily life, sacrifice means giving up time for others if they are sad, hurt or need comfort. You can also think about others before thinking about yourselves.
That’s right. Can you give us an example?
In daily life, sacrifice means giving something up such as working to help someone with something and not do a thing that you like to do to spend time with another person who could be lonely or sick.
It does indeed. Can you share an example of when you have done this?
